Default Why does forge world still charge in GBP...

Well, That's my question. Anybody know why? It seems that, with the euro becoming so popular, that FW would charge in it, rather than GBP...I know it is probably their option to do so, but, it would make is so much easier for people outside of Europe, say, in the US, as the euro is much closer in monetary value to the USD, and that way you can look at the price of an item and just add ~25%, and you have the relative price... but with GBP, you have to add somewhere around 87%. I'm no mathophobiac, but 25% is easier than 87. I'm probably sounding like a selfish little boy, but, FW could at least have the option of showing you the prices in USD or Euros, like the GW sites have (well, kind of have, but only because they have different versions of the sites for different countries... it seems that FW would do that, too... guess not).

Forge World is a UK-based company, so they charge in the currency of the UK; ie, pounds. If they were to accept payment in other currencies, they'd need to keep converting it to pounds so that they could pay their local costs, which would lose them a percentage in assorted bookkeeping fees. That might be worthwhile if they were a larger company and could afford to employ someone just to handle those issues, but for the moment they're probably better off relying on credit card companies to do that for them.

The other thing that they could do is to list estimates of the prices of their models in different currencies, updated with exchange rates pulled off the web somewhere. They'd still only accept payment in pounds, but browsers from other countries would be able to see how much they cost without taking 5 seconds to type "20 gbp in usd" (say) into google. However, I suspect that most countries' laws would require them to honour the advertised prices regardless of currency, so they'd be forced back into the first option.

isn't the exchange rate between the GBP and the Euro locked?

Therefore, advertising in one or the other becomes the same?

Britain, as a matter of national pride more than financial sense (though it turns out to make it so far), the Pound will not be changed to a Euro to avoid the nationalisation of Europe that's long been a reality post-communism in the eastern countries there.

Forge World is a British company...and is not all over the world like Games Workshop proper, so because of this isolation doesn't feel the need to accomodate other countries anywhere near as much (because they can't afford the overhead costs)...but really, not showing alternative prices on their site is moreso laziness or bad design than anything...though it could be reasoned that since you're going to be paying them in Pounds (and only Pounds), you should at least know and see what it is in that so you don't get confused.

Yes, very true. I almost bought about 90 pounds worth of stuff before realizing that the little Euro sign was in fact a Pound sign and that 90pounds of stuff was way diff. than 70 Euros, and especially USD, of stuff...
Thanks for the replies

Really? And there was me thinking that maybe Britain has a strong currancy, and as such has no intention of cashing into the weaker Euro.

I just want to point out that the forge world site has a linke to a very easy to use currency converter. Just open that link when you get to the site and convert as needed.
