Default Rules guestion, CC and casualty removal.

The following situation came up last thursday in game:

My opponent won CC, and consolidated, managing to get another squad in contact.
There was one model in contact with one of my firewarriors.

In my turn, I managed to blow up one of his vehicles near by. It detonated, and killed 4 guys from the firewarrior squad.
So my question is, if I kill the model in base to base contact, does the firewarrior unit remain locked in CC, or can they shoot in the firing phase? If they remain locked, what happens in assault phase, as there is no b2b contact?

So long as at least one model in the squad is within fighting range (eg: within 2" of a combatant or enemy) they would remain locked.

At least, that's how I'd play it.

Then what would happen in assault phase, as there is no b2b contant? Pile in only?

Chances are this is something that the designers never really came across in play testing. Best thing to do is house rule it. The Pile in only solution seems like a decent one, but some people may disagree. If that happens just 4+ it since this doesnt seem to be covered by the book or an FAQ or anything

i would say that if they died then it should be treated as theyre out of close combat, i mean why not?

Fight normally.

Read what I said again... as long as one model is within fighting range.

Isnīt the CC stopped once all models in b2b contact are removed, preventing models with lower I value from hittting? The units are still locked in combat, and are fighting, but no further hits are exchanged (or do I remember wrong). If at the beginning at the CC there are no b2b contact, doesnīt that mean that none of the models can hit on their I turn, meaning that the combat will effectively tie?

I would play it as both units locked in combat through the shooting phase as that's how they started the phase then resolve after the phase as suggested by WarGamer.

I'd say the CC was broken up by the lethal and very distracting EXPLOSION of a nearby vehicle.
