Any good? Or is it just a giant-sized version of that awful supplement they used to do?

Just what I was thinking. And are they worth their price?

How is the content inside the Canadian White Drawf?

And how much does it cost?

I have been thinking about picking it myself since this is the first issue.

Just got my copy of the new Canadian White Dwarf #1. Not the collector version with the shiny gold leaf letters and heavy card stock cover though.

Brief run down on the articles, going form back to front.

Colour theory: Apparently the first in a series on tip about the various colours. Includes best complementary colours, results of black or white base coating, and what best to mix with the colour for highlights and shading. This month's colour was blood red.

Conversion Corner: A number of pages on creating unique and interesting units custom made and to 'represent' other units. This month was units that could be used as dogs of war units in fantasy. Includes stat lines and rules.

Make Your Move: Presents you with a battlefield problem form a game and asks how best to proceed to win for one side. If you ever read Inquest for Magic: The Gathering you'll know what this is like as they had something similar. This month was how to win with a lone unit of Thousand Sons and a Sorcerer against s ten strong squad of Hormogaunts, a Zoanthrope, and six genestealers. Includes battlefield set up. Best answer will be posted next month.

The Rank and Files: Will look at one unit form a diffrent game each month and goes over pros and cons, little tricks, sample units and over all views of things. This month was Night Goblins.

Army Showcase: Pretty much what you expect. Showcase was a Tau army. This was a bit more detail into the conversions showing even some tips and tricks to how the conversions were made from helmetless tau, repositioning Crisis Suit legs, some axillary units, etc.

'Eavy Metal: Paint tutorial. This month, LOTR banners.

Painting Workshop: Why it is called this I don't know. It does give some paint schemes in tips but also gives some conversion tips and basic assembly instructions. This time for the new space marine sniper rifle scouts. Also showed all the pieces on the sprue which can be good if your looking for bitz.

Tomb Kings: basically a review and suggested tactics for the Tomb kings for WHFB.

Regiments of Renown: Updated rules and stat lines for many dogs of war units including Giants and Ogres as well as a few old favorites. Doesn't give all the stats for many of the older units but still gives enough for anyone looking to add a few to their army for WHFB.

Dok Butcha's Conversion Klinic: Basically a look at a diffrent conversion each month and some insight on how it was done. this month was a Deathleaper crawling out of a seware pipe.

Waaagh! Nazdreg: Bit of a look at some of the new Ork models, the Orks on Medusa and their goals there.

Citadel Toolbox: Tools and gear for painting, modeling, etc. Anything that isn't models. This month, the new urban basing kit.

Battle report: LOTR battle report for Fall of the Necromancer. About the only attention LOTR gets int his beyond the banners.

Standard Bearer: Talk about what went into the models and behinds the scenes. This month, Cities of Death rules and scenery.

Battle report: Cities of Death battle report. Guard versus Orks. Since the thing being shown off here is the scenery I think we might have a non-determined game here.

Cities of Death: Advertising and a showing off of models made for the city fight setting to various degrees from the bases to full on conversions.

...add the obligatory advertising at the front of new releases(Ravenor Returned is out in paperback this month!) for every branch of the GW company, some words from the staff and a example of a model a guy here in Edmonton made of a LOTR corsair ship and you got your first Canadian WD.

EDIT: Oh, and for the record, Cost is $10.00.

Spirit,

Thanks for the awesome run through. Nice to know what's in there before buying. If you have a subscription or plan on buying them all, it would be really cool if you could forewarn us guys who can't seem to get our hands on one that isn't still in plastic so that we can keep an eye out for the good ones to buy, like chapter approved bits that are worth having.

I'm pretty confident I will not be paying for a $86 CAD subscription for it. And the off-the-stand price of $10 CAD is insane. I'll just wait to see if any good issues are made, with any good content worth that price (like some great new chapter approved unit rules or something).

Otherwise, I guess my money will be spent on the minis... well, that and Cities of Death codex :P

Cheers!
