Default Shock and Awe - Is it possible in 40k?

For those of you who do not know what Shock and Awe is,
Shock and Awe is a tactic utilizing a massive show of force to scare your opponet into messing up. Big weapons and stuff that looks big can also aid in shock and awe.

I wonder..is it possible to acutally apply Shock and Awe to a game of 40k?

discuss.

I'd say that you can cause shock and awe from a nice paint job. Whenever I play a well painted army i get nervous. I don't know about big guns and stuff like that though cause most people know the rules for other armies.

Trust me, three broadsides is pretty scary.
Also is a Armored Company.

Hehe funny you should ask yesterday I fielded my full mechanized army it was 7 tanks and 2 lighter skimmers with a handful of suits and a full rank of infantry and their transports. Now that was spectacular. I got a number of holy **** and good gods. My enemy threw in as many lascannons, power fists, melta guns and plasma pistols as he could and still...

Shock and awe is very possible, when you see an Avatar and 3 Wraithlords or a Daemon Prince and Greater Daemon or 3 Land Raiders full of Terminators or 60+ assault marines... sometimes the choices arent that practical but man they can cover the awe factor.

he he, you guys have to see my Shock and Awe tactics against the noob players (not noobs but really bad players) is
"holy crap he is actually using 500 points in a 1000 point game, i should just pack up now"

oh yes and my favorite
"the model has blood on it because it single handedly destroyed my 1000 points of marines in 2 turns..."

Gawd I hate that term, but yes it can be used. Nid Godzilla lists, tank heavy lists, fielding over 70 marines in a 1500 point list, telling your opponent that you have nothing to deploy during the normal deployment phase, being Steven Hawking, etc. All very unnerving facts that may very well unnerve your opponent. :P

Bombing a country all day and doing surgical strikes and moving all your ground troops forward all night under the cover of darkness isn't really possible however. Really neat trick to do when your enemy doesn't have enough night vision goggles to go around though. ;D

Better powergaming test? Ok:
1. Do you intend to win even if it might take the fun of the game away from either yourself or your opponent?

If you answered yes to question 1, you are in fact a power gamer, and your list is probably either beardy or you can abuse the rules to make it such.

Try dropping a Gargantuan Squiggoth on either flank of your army, or, my favorite, dropping ~200 orks onto the table. *Smack* ;D

*goes back into lurk-mode* :P

A the psychological effect ^_^

Yes as a matter of fact Daemonhunters have a nice little for thisaemonhost. to the inexperienced player, it is just the most scariest thing the Inquisition can bring, to the knowing player, it's just a pretty paperwait.

Also Orbital strikes work wonders, into scaring people.

So yes I do use Shock and Awe tactics, they are a fun part of the game.
