Default Tank crews...bailing out?

Spawned from the Tau thread's idea about pulse pistol uses, are there any rules in existance anywhere for tank crews to abandoned their vehicles (Say if they're immobilized and their weapons are stunned), and foot-slog it somewhere?

Thought about trying to build some tank crewmen out of spare parts from other kits (tau), but I wouldn't want to do it if they aren't worth it.

So, do any rules exist anywhere for tank crews without the tank? Imperials have Titan pilots without the Titans, and pilots without their aircraft, so tank crews without tanks?

I believe there were/are rules for "crew escape mechanisms" somewhere...possibly in one of the Imperial Armour books, or as part of the VDR rules.

Otherwise, no, not since second edition.

I believe one of the earlier editions included rules for tank crews bailing out but there is nothing for that now.

However nothing is to stop you from house ruling it. For instance here is something I whipped up just now:

The crew of a vehicle suffering a vehicle destroyed result or destruction that did not move more than 12" may disembark from any of its hatches, if the vehicle doesnt have hatches use the hatch representations on other vehicles of the same chasis that do.

EX: Hammerhead and Devilfish or Predator and Rhino.

A vehicles crew may also disembark if their ride was destroyed via multiple immobolization or armament destroyed results. Vehicle explodes or vehicle annihilated results do not allow a crew to disembark as the explosive death of their vehicle takes the crew with it.

If the vehicle was destroyed after having moved over 6" and under 12" roll a D6 for each crew member. On a roll of 1 or 2 the crew member did not survive the crash.

As for how many crew are in each vehicle well I think Imperial Armor is the best source for this as Im not sure about what the official numbers are but you could go on average 2 or 3 for each battle tank and 1 for each transport tank. So a Devilfish, Rhino or Wave Serpent would have 1 crew member where as a Predator, Hammerhead or Falcon would have 2. A number of models like the Eldar ones have crew shown on the model so that helps.

The crew escape mechanism was an Imperial Guard vehicle upgrade for their 3rd Edtition Codex, but was removed from it for the latest dex. I suppose you could create some house rules for them if you want to go the work of creating the tank crews .

Tau aircraft has escape pods for saving crews. But that's FW. Not GW.

Better, more Tau-ish would be a jetbooster that takes them 12" away from the wreak in a random direction (roll scatter dice!)
