Default Does your Independent Retailer has the same problem?

Today I went to my Independent Retailer. I wanted to buy a single Tau Piranha, The Horus Heresy novel, the Warrior Coven novel and the new White dwarf with the Medusa V supplement.

When I got there I was looking around but couldn't find any of these products. I asked the employee and he first looked too but also didn't see any of those. He then checked the computer and saw that Games Workshop hasn't delivered it to them. The IR shop did ordered it, but didn't received it. So I could get home with nothing...
I then called the GW shop and asked if they had those items in stock, and yes they did. I couldn't go there anymore because it was getting near closing time and the GW shop is 45 minutes with the train away.

My point is why do Independent Retailer shops always seem to get things later than the normal GW shops?
This has happened to me several times now.

Simply put, GW stores are part of the company, IR's are not and are mainly a supplimental source of income for the company.

Yes the retailer I go to has the same problem, GW is very slow to deliver and it takes a while for purchased things to be replaced.

To expand on what Farseer Tyross said, GW dosen't make any money off IR (IR are not franchises, thus they are not included in franchise polices, ex. GW get's 5% of what franchises make). Since IRs are not franchises, GW doesn't want them to take away buisness becuase 1) they are usually cheaper than a GW store and 2) usually closer to a person's house than a GW store. GW wants to capitalize on new stuff (ex. Warrior Coven, great book by the way ), so they get more money. Once, the new stuff isn't so new, they send it to IRs. That's why they get it so late.

Yea, had the same problem with my IR. I pre-ordered the piranha 3-pack, and they got it a week late. It dident bother me any since they called me when they had it, instead of me going thier and finding nothing. Plus I got a 20% discount >.

GW can do whatever they want, it won't change the fact that I'm not willing to pay full price for GW products. (except for maybe Forgeworld :-\). So even if thier stores are the first to get the greatest and latest, I still don't buy from there :P.

Mine doesn't. He ordered three of the Tau army boxes (the expensive ones with the dex early) to open up and sell the bits seperate, which was great as they were a day early, and I did not have to shell out 145 just to get the dex early!

Makes sense why they do this however, but just wait a bit. I'd rather buy independant than GW anyday.

I only have independent retailers in my country. That's right, no GW.

It takes time time for the new stuff to come to the stores. Thus, I always suffer this problem.

Actually, GW stores are not franchises, they're wholy-owned outlets. A franchise is typically a privately-owned business that pays a franchise fee, in order to benefit from greater name recognition and standardization. The franchise owner handles hiring/firing/training.

GW stores are owned by GW, not by a store owner. Hiring/firing is done centrally, although managers do have input. They don't pay a franchise fee, all store profits (or losses) go directly to GW.

That is one of the reasons i prefer to shop at my local GW.

Newer stuff faster, more shop events and always-full stock > Lower prices

The place I go to gives a 10% discount, and has everything the day it is supposed to be released, but then again, it's the only place that supplies GW products for miles....
