Dose anyone on TAU online know how to get a great army composition score for tourneys? Like how they score them?

+++I think they base it on how many troops choices you have or something, although there are other things they take into account. E.g. if you have 2 squads of 5 Space Marines as your troops, and then both the HQ choices, and all 3 of the H/S, F/A and Elites slots used up, you'd get a bad score. If on the other hand you used up all 6 troop slots with full ten-man squads, you'd score well. It's to stop people "Powergaming" although sometimes people get round it by using such tactics as the now deceased Rhino Rush tactic+++

Or by taking advantage of the extremely irritating Disruption table that Alaitoc inflict on their enemy by taking 6 squads of Pathfinders and Rangers.
P.S. I'd like to take this oppurtunity to point out that Eldar Pathfinders are far superior to, and cooler than, Tau Pathfinders. ;D Lol.

I don't really get how composition scores work as i can't see any problem with how people wan't to put together their armies, surely in official tournies GW couldn't accuse people of powergaming as that would be admitting that their own game isn't working properly.
Also in official tournies you have to write some fluff on your army which gets you some points(in grand tournies anyway) so surely if your army corresponds with this then they can't give a low score. I think in big tournies now there is a system where painting, fluff etc are all in one category. Also in the main tournament, the UK GT final there is no points given for composition(well it doesn't say so in the rule pack which gives a break down about how you get points and for what) so the only time composition comes into it is if your opponent marks your sportsmanship score down due to composition but to give you a negative score they have to give a ref a reason and i don't think your composition will be a valid reason.

at the tournaments ive attended they score them on the percent of points spent on each type of unit (HQ Elite etc) and compare it to an agreed upon average that the judes believe is appropriate. then I believe they look at how efficient your army list is (typos and errors).

Not rewarding people who compose tournament armies almost solely of ridiculously cheesy bullsh** is hardly an admission of your own system not working. GW is well aware of people with floor-length beards playing their games, and in my opinion, it should never be rewarded. I never played in any GT's or large tourneys before, but I didn't win all that much with my old Guard army. I'll tell you why - I took infantry, not 27 tanks and a single infantry platoon.
I may not win all that much with the Tau, because I will use Kroot, Krootoxen, etc. Why? Because it's in the character of the army. If I took a maxed out HQ, two 8-man FW squads, and then Hammerheads, Broadsides and Pathfinders...I mean, seriously, give me a break. Army composition is an extremely good way to keep people who do nothing but melt a big steaming pile of mozzarella over their armies from taking all the points in tournaments. It should be this way, because many of us get a hell of a lot bigger kick out of the modelling end of the game, and coming up with background, etc. than we do winning at all costs.

Very well put Commissar, I could've have put it better myself. There IS, however one step even lower on the Rung for Power Gamers. That is the Power Gamer that deliberately scores the Sportsman portion of the game as LOW as he possibly can on an oponent. If I remember my Lore correctly (this is based on a old post on `Da Waaagh'
there was a Father/Son team playing in a tourney back East (Eastern Seaboard, US) that intentionally lowballed ALL their oponents sportsmanship scores. Caused quite a stink.Great thing to teach your son, No > ?Best,

I think they worked it out based upon the ratio of points spent on Elites to Troops to the other Sections, and also upon the what you took, like take 10 Deathwing Terminators with a Deathwing Grand Master, and 20 Tacticals would score higher then 10 normal Termies, Force Commander and 20 Tacticals from another army.
