Default Question about Morale

Me and a few gamers had a little dispute over a morale test. Heres what happened:

It was the end of the assault phase, which ended in a draw. He had one unit(4 CSM), and I had 3(5 FW,* 2x1 Crisis). Upon rolling for morale high ground, he asked me what I was doing when I started to roll 3 dice, 1 for each unit. Needless to say he got all huffy, and when we brought in a friend to get his opinion, he agreed with me, and then my opponent had me check the rule book. Now I can't remember if it was in the rule book, but I do remember that we went with the one die for each unit. Was I right, in assuming that you receive 1 die for each unit in combat whene rolling for Morale High Ground?

Oh and now that I thought of it, only one of the dice beat my oponnents, so should my other two units feld as well??

PS Any one else find that the rule book is sort of....un organised? Our gaming group has so many problems with finding rules, mission etc. I liked the 3ed format. All the missions were in one section, all the rules in another etc. In the 4th ed rule book, its all tossed into one big jumble of a book...

As far as I understand now there is no moral high ground. A tie is a tie and that is that. I think it is in the combat resolution part of the rule book but I will look again to make sure.

Page 45, under "Multiple Combats" section. Only the side that suffered the most casualties rolls for morale, and each unit involved in an assault on the losing side rolls for morale. The winner can only sweaping advance and consolidate if all of the units they are locked in combat with fall back. If a unit fails its morale check, it falls back.

So when he asked you why you were rolling three dice, he should have asked you why you were rolling any dice.

And they have organised the 4th edition rulebook, all those little things which they just threw in like Ordnance pinning etc are now organised. This makes things much nicer.
Oh and by the way, make use of the Index at the back. It does help a lot.

Yes it is a much needed addition. I can't believe it took GW this long to realise they forgot to include an index. ;D

hmm seems some messages may have been crossed. It was a tie as no one scored any wounds, so we went to morale high ground. any way, it seems we were playing it wrong so thanx for your comments! I'll have to keep them in mind for my next battle.

If both sides score the same number of wounds then the combat is a fraw and proceeds to the next turn.
