I have been reading a lot of the GW fluff over again and some of what is on this site. I read some of this stuff and I wonder why GW has not yet tried to make a 40k movie. We have games made but the 40k universe is ideal to encompass a lot of sci-fi related topics.
I would definitively go see a movie based on WarHammer 40 000. I was thinking of a title like The Blood Angels, or The Xeno Thereat. What do you guys think

It would be difficult. It is hard to write a movie-style plot using Space Marines. They all have roughly the same personality, no sense of humor, no interest in women, etc. It certainly wouldn't be character driven. They work decently in books, but it would be hard to make an interesting movie about them. You would be better off focusing on Guard with slight Space Marine involvement.

This is a question me and my friends ask quite a lot.
I believe that a movie based off of the Battle for Macragge would work well among all audiences. All 40K players know about Macragge, and the plot is fitting for the style of movies that seem to be popular. The Ultramarines give their lives in heroic defense and a fervent display of valor driving off the tyranids, losing an entire company in the process, etc.. But in the end, of course, the humans prevail. It would be a great opportunity to have a bunch of epic scenes that made movies like the Lord of the Rings so fun to watch.

There was a movie in the works, and it had space marines... but it was like three years ago and apparently ran out of funding. I can't seem to find the site. I'll post a link when I find it.

it would be cool to do an animation instead but if they dare use cgi graphics I'll burn down GW!

Bloodquest was supposed to be made into film format, but the project died.
Damnatus is the most promising thing around. They were in the final stages as of September, and they wanted it finished this year... Of course, there are many problems with a 40K film... same with the 40K games really. You've got to capture the essence of 40K, without isolating and excluding people who aren't into the hobby. In this regard, Dawn of War is a total success. You don't need to know 40K to play it because the gaming system is nigh on flawless. Let us consider the races in an "out of hobby" format:
You don't need to play 40K to understand what these races are, as there are forces like them in countless other games. The way the Marines act and talk, along with structure-names like "Fortress Monestary" portrays the idea that these are "sci-fi Knights" rather than generic futuristic action heroes. Orks are clearly the primitive hoard; their buildings are flimsy, the talk in a brutish manner, and their units are generally low on armour. You might not know where they came from, or how, or why, but you quickly pick up that Orks live for battle. Chaos is evil personified. One look at their buildings (with writhing faces in the walls), and units like "Daemons" and "Possessed", and Chaos smacks of evil. Listening to the dialect makes them seem totally stark-raving mad ("Sanity is for the weak!" "Do you hear the voices too!?") No more info needed. Eldar are mysterious. Clearly, their units are the best in the game, but only in a certain field. For example, the "Dark Reapers" are amazing against heavy infantry like Marines or Chaos, but weak against Orks. A few games with them should make it clear the Eldar specialise in their method of combat to an extreme, and have very good Psykers. The bizarre webway abilities suggest some pretty advanced tech as well. A 40K film needs to convey info like that, all in the space of 90mins to 2 hours. That is the tricky part.

It would certainly not be easy to make but with some of the fluff you guys have made I easily can see with a few modifications that a great movie could be made. I mean some of you guys actually described point of view and such you replace those by camera shots and you got yourself a movie.
As for introducing the different factions you don't need to. Like Wargammer said everyone doesn't need to know everything about the characters from the start you just need to watch the movie a bit and get a good idea of where they are coming from. At the beginning of Dawn of War you have no clue what it's all about but by the end you get a glimpse into the history of the Imperium of man. Same thing with a movie. I mean like X-men, you don't need to explain everything about everyone in 1 go you concentrate on your story and explaining the characters that are involved in it without making it a documentary about who SM or IG are. You can introduce some of the other Xeno's , but don't always need to explain where there from or why they are doing it.the Damnatus trail look cool, but that CGI skull is cool but I would have put more money into the blaster shots instead
