Default Black Behemoth's Guide to Chosing an Army

I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I don't believe it has. Here is a guide for people to choose an army to start by play style and tactics. To use it, start with Question 1 and go to the Question the answers tell you to go to. Not that this does not include sub-armies (Blood Angels, Craftworld Eldar, Catachans, ETC.) or smaller armies (Kroot Mercenaries, ETC.). I hope you like it.

Question 1: Do you like to shoot, assault or do an "equal" amount of both?

If you like to shoot, go to Question 2.

If you like to assault, go to Question 3

If you like to do both shooting and assaulting, go to Question 5

Question 2: Do you like static (sitting still) shooting, mechanized (mobile) shooting, or close-range shooting?

If you like static, you have chosen Imperial Guard. Their masses of tanks and huge guns give you no reason to move and more reason to shoot.

If you like mechanized, you have chosen Tau. Their ultra-mobile battlesuits and skimmers coupled with their ultra-powerful guns will allow you to out-maneuver your opponent while blowing them to bits.

If you like close-ranged shooting, you have chosen Witch Hunters. Power armor plus tons of close-range weaponary fit the role perfectly.

Question 3: Do you prefer swarming with weaker assaulters or using a few, but powerful, assaulters?

If you prefer swarms, go to Question 4

If you prefer having few, but powerful, assaulters, you have chosen Daemon Hunters. The Grey Knights' supreme assaulting power coupled with the Inquistorials make the Daemon Hunters expensive but excellent in close combat. They are especially good against the Chaos Space Marines.

[b]Question 4: Do you prefer using hard-to-kill, but expensive, monstrous creatures or lots of vehicles, including looted ones?

If you prefer Monstrous Creatures, you have chosen Tyranids. Along with swarms of Gants, the almighty Carnifex and Hive Tyrant are nearly invincible to everything and will wreck havoc to your enemies.

If you prefer using vehicles, you have chosen Orks. The high volume of cheap, but excellent in assaulting, Orks with their light transports and looted tanks will outnumber your opponent with mobs of great assaulters that is feared by many.

Question 5: Do you prefer being the rock-solid but expensive jack-of-all-trades (good at nearly everything) or being fragile, but highly destructive?

If you prefer being the jack-of-all-trades, go to Question 6.

If you prefer to be fragile, but powerful, go to Question 8.

Question 6: Do you prefer to have a large amount of customability and numerous great tanks or be extremely hard to kill with one great tank?

If you prefer having customability, go to Question 7.

If you prefer being extremely hard to kill, you have chosen Necrons. Their 3+ saves and We Will Be Back rule, along with the nearly impossible to kill Monolith, will keep them alive for the longest time.

Question 7: Do you prefer being highly balanced between assaulting and shooting and having lots of other specialized units or do you prefer having units equipped with some of the nastiest things from one of the nastiest Armories in 40k?

If you prefer having balance and specialized units, you have chosen Space Marines. The GW coverboys and perfect for newbies, they are the true jack-of-all-trades.

If you prefer nasty equipment, you have chosen Chaos Space Marines. Their grizzly units and sick equipment can make a simple model as deadly as a Carnifex.

Question 8: Do you prefer having an abundance of Monstrous Creatures along with many great low-AP guns or do you prefer having troops as powerful and deadly as elites with half the cost?

If you prefer Monstrous Creatures and low-AP guns, you have chosen Eldar. With deadly monstrous creatures such as the Wraithlord and Avatar and low-AP weaponary such as the Star Cannon and Bright Lance, the Eldar are a solid, yet somewhat fragile, army.

If you prefer dangerous troops, you have chosen Dark Eldar. They have the best troops in the game and many other deadly units.

Way too general. Chaos Marines are the ultimate close combat monsters. Eldar are experts at mobile firepower. Marines can be made into armies that can outshoot static guard. Also, most people will make there army hybrids. Guard with some assault and mobility. Chaos or Orks with lots of long range firepower. Nids with large numbers of gaunts.

SM and Eldar usually both shoot and assault, so I put them there. Just because it is under shooting doesn't mean that it is better than shooting an something that does both. Same goes for assaulting. A power-gaming CSM player could destroy a swarm Tyranid army with ease in close combat. You DO see a shooty Tyranid army or assaulty Imperial Guard from time to time, but not as often as what I stated.

But there are just as many, if not more, footslogging Ork armies than Speed Freeks..
As Vimes said, it is too general.

To get it more accurate, loads and loads of questions need to be asked, about what people would do in certain situations, and tactics, etc.

What about Static Tau, or Mechanised Guard, or gun-laden Marines?

This is way, way too general.

Alright. I'll do revisions and add some questions in. May take awhile. :-\
