Default Fluff relation to 40K gaming

I was reading the article in WD about how people collect armies. Being me, I assume most people have the same approach I do. The article showed me differently, so I though this poll might be interesting.

I dont really have the funds to buy a whole army at once and then focus on the fluff and what not afterwards so it builds as I go. Its very important that my army is in line with the fluff though I also like inventing my own fluff to describe why my Cadre is so... umm, crazy.

I havent really dabled in conversions much as I dont have the funds but as soon as I can Ill be tinkering with that and using neat additions to my models to add to their fluff aswell.

I guess Id fall in that first catagory.

Fluff first, second, third, proxy list fourth, more fluff fifth, and actually collecting the army sixth.

While I do base my army on the fluff as much as possible, sometimes I add additional fluff after making a certain model. Take my Demo Trooper for example - he started as a basic guardsmen, but when I finished converting him it was clear he was a bit special, so I made up some background for him.

I always start with the basic fluff for my army, then find out a 'core list' of units i definatley want to appear that go with the fluff. Then I think up more fluff on these specific units, as I am almost always going to use them in my lists. Finally I add in more units which I want, I count up my points and throw in whatever i think will actually be useful and make the necessary adjustments to make an actually useful list.

My Tau really don't have a whole lot of fluff behind them. My Gue'vassa on the other hand originated as a fluff idea over a year ago and I've been making fiction for them since before I started collecting the army.

My Tyranids don't have any fluff, because..well, Tyranids generally don't. They came from beyond the galaxy. Thats about it. Yay.

My Orks don't either. They could do, but...I'll make the army first. And then....possibly.
To be honest, I'm not too bothered.

Fluff is as important as elves in my book.(look on sig)
It also helps since I now have no $$$ and need more men.
Yay Gue'vesa 20 men for 30 bucks.
Yay termies 5 suits with a little green stuff to fit plasma.

The character behind your army determines playing stye, hobby style, a whole LOT about your army. Heck, I love tech. I want tau from Bork'an. So my shas are from Bork'an, and they use more advanced tech/organization.

If you find the fluff provided for armies too bland, make up your own that fits. Like this guy did.
