Basic economics will tell you that there is a trade-off between volume and price. Raise prices and you will sell less. Lower prices and you will sell more. If your profit is a function of how much it costs you to make everything, how much you sell it for, and how many you sell, there should be an optimum price that maximizes profits and keeps your volume at levels your manufacturing base can meet.

I am not sure GW always gets this balance right, but their business department believes that it does.

Ironic that I get a pay rise as GW increases their prices. I'm not too bothered, now. I didn't see may Battleforces on there so its not too bad, and the indie stores are always cheaper than going into a GW store. So maybe a Visa Debit card is in order (thats if your over 18)?

My pay goes up and so does all the prices of my hobbies, food, petrol etc. :P It's all relative.

And those of us who don't have any more coming in?

I can barely afford the hobby as it is!! ****S SAKE!! it just isn't right!

The thing that really annoys me is that they can use the economic recovery as an excuse, but will they actually lower the prices when everything has been smoothed out again? Good luck finding rooster teeth and that talking dog.

And whats more - price hike when dark eldar are around the corner? Irony?

For "rebounding" from a recession, their profit reports have been much more stable than you guys realize.

Heck, Khan hit it on the head really. The last time GW had good prices was when they were in real financial peril around Apocalypse's time.

What did they do to recover? Bulk models sold at great prices, a well-received expansion, the best customer service in a long time with regards to FAQ/Errata as well as continued support of Apoc with new missions/Datasheets for the better part of a year AND to top it off BI (iirc my times correctly) released the Dark Heresy rpg!

Holy **** is that impressive.

Truly though, what does GW do when their profits come back?

They raise prices (this will make the second time I believe), they discontinue their Apoc set deals, they release some truly horrendous terrain that many people found to be utterly contemptible even for vacuum press stuff, they close down parts of their answer service, destroy pretty much all the SG's stuff in their move to a worse website and don't bring it back, they sell off the rights to Dark Heresy to FFG, and above all of that have released codexes that clearly are more clearly for marketing importance than normally done (the creep), and Planetstrike did not make as large of an impact as they'd hoped. :P

Seriously, wtf GW don't you ever learn?

At least the new sculpts look great imo, though for two price raises and cutting back on box deals I'm not sure how much I can say the trade-off canceled out. :-\

I don't care what age you are, but if your spending more than 20% of a paycheck on a hobby compared to saving and investing + utilities/bills then you are going to commit financial suicide under most conditions.*

Start early.

Starting now, you can already have a sizable chunk of savings to put into an IRA when you get a little older, plus you can invest that money or just plain-jane save it for the time being.

Trust me when I say GW is not worth the future compared to what you could have.
