On page 16 of the new Blood Angels codex there is mention of a Necron character called the "Silent King." Normally this would be a beating stick character but the story mentioned not only survived the Silent King, alongside Dante, beat back a Tyranid splinter fleet.

Let me say that again. A "named" Necron character not only stalemated the Blood Angels in their own codex, he beat the crap out of another army. Could this be one of the rumored special characters in the 5th ed Necron codex? Time will tell. Sooner or later, time will tell.

There has been named Necrons before, So I wouldn't expect this to be signs of a special character. I could be pleasantly surprised, but I am doubtful. Though, I like how necrons seem to be kicking ass in the background of the last couple codex's.

There been rumours floating around about a certain character named the Necromancer (possible LOTR rip off or a codeword for another character perhaps) which is apperently getting a plastic kit and going to be the central part of the release. Although, they are a while off, so any rumours that come off the mill could all be rumours for this dude.

On a side note, I take it that the C'tan will be getting a battlesheet for Apoc in the WD when the new book comes out?

My line of thinking is this.

They already have models out for two of the C'tan, so instead of there being 'actual' C'tan running around in games, there will be some sort of Avatar/aspect/form/Applied Phlebotinum which will allow you to still use the models, but they will not be the C'tan. Maybe they will be something like Greater Daemons, or more like an Eldar Avatar, or more like an Upgrade to Lords...I don't know. That is what I expect will be done with the models.

Then, I expect Forge World to make Giant C'tan models, and release rules for them. Much like they have done for the Chaos Greater Daemons. This will be used to represent the 'actual' C'tan.

Correction: the necromancer is supposedly a new unit for the necons, it will be a monstrous creature.

In the latest rulebook they suggested that the so called C'tan running about are actually high level Necron lords. Their bodies modeled on the gods to the point their forms are somewhat fluid but not actually being the gods. Sounds like the C'tan being pulled but not the models(for obvious reasons). It also suggested the Necrons might not be as strong as first depicted, that some tombworlds are malfunctioning.

This most recent, I will point out that it was them fighting to a stand still against the Blood Angels but then uniting to fight the Tyranids together. Then walking away afterwards from each other not wanting to fight those they had only just so recently been allies with. Let's look at that again. The Necrons fought beside another race and then walked away. Aren't these the guys that are suppose to want to kill all intelligent life in the galaxy? Be an unstoppable wave of metal killers?

I get the feeling that come the next Necron codex we're going to find that the Necrons have undergone a change from the original monolithic killing force to a more fractured and independently willed forces. The operating procedures and relations to other races being born more by the thoughts of the Necron Lord in charge of the tombworld than the overarching plans of the C'tan.

In my opinion it's a change that has much more potential to insert the race into the existing fluff of the 40K universe than the previous codex. That one came across as being a bit much all round.
