Default US 2009 Grand tournaments are gone.

We know this will come as a disappointment to many who have enjoyed the resurgence in the GWGTs over the past two years, and as such this isn’t a decision we have entered into lightly.

This will give us the opportunity to step back and develop an even better experience and overall tournament circuit that will be able to apply to all of North America for 2010.

In the meantime, we heartily encourage anyone looking to get their tournament fix in to participate in the remaining shows on the GW Tournament circuit as well as the other great independent tournament and events that will take place throughout the rest of 2009. Link.

Thoughts anyone?

It sort of is sad that this happened. although it does not affect me as I do not play in grand tournaments. I remember playing ag8inst the Grand tournament players in a giant battle and losing though.

I'm sorry to hear that, but it doesn't really affect me, Warhammer Worlds 20 mins, or £2 on the bus, away , oh and I don't go to GT

Never been to one so I wouldn't know, but I heard they did this once before and it came back better than ever, so let's hope when the GT comes back next year they put on an even better show than before.

With the Merger of GW USA and GW Canada, it was bound to happen.

At least they are planing something to replace it and covering the whole of North America, which could be promising.

There have been a lot of comments on this on BoLS and I'm generally surprised that most people are glad that this happened. The argument is that GW was never really fully supportive or excited about 40k being competitive like MTG. Additionally, some think that this might be them anticipating a lower turnout next year due to the economy and they are just going to cut their losses. I personally think this is a good opportunity for them to focus their attention on the game, like they should've been doing the whole time! Let the independent retailers manage the tournament scene and go back to updating codeces and giving us more models!

I doubt the design team has anything to do with the tournament schedule in the first place, so I don't think the game is going to see any huge benefit. We're not going to get DE, LatD, and Squats any faster because of it. :P

I'm just wondering if I should wait up for a GW GT....

I'm thinking about signing up for a GT next september, but it's not GW and I'm afraid I'd be busy then, so if it has no GW backing, I see no point in going. Of course GW may not withdraw their backing, just their own GTs...

Some of the locals are gonna be rather angry should this include the Canadian GT (which I imagine it very well might). We have some people that were extremely high up in the HoH standings, so not only would those lose out on an event they normally would've qualified for, but one guy was also making a run at the top spot this year.
