Default GW Canada

Has anyone seen the news about GW Canada closing it's doors April 30th? Its floating around a number of the other boards. Apparently they will turn GW US into GW North America.

Didn't that already happen? When they lowered some of the prices way back when ever.

Yes, It's a done deal IIRC. GW Canada merged with GW USA maybe 6 to 12 month ago.

It could have been my imagination, But there's been talk of this for well over a year.

... from The Miniatures Page:

Christian Augst of Astronomi-con has posted the following on his website:

"I have just recently gotten confirmation that the GW Canada HQ will cease operation as of April 30th, 2009.

I do not have any specific information about what this will mean for Canadian GW customers, Games Day events, Canadian White Dwarf, or all of the other myriad of GW Canada related topics.

This will I suppose complete the transition of GW Canada and GW U.S. to become GW North America."
Strange, I just saw this posted today. ???

I think this is simply a stage in the process. They certainly cannot just throw a switch and "BAM!" the merger is done. They probably needed to keep the Canadian office around for a lil while until the North American HQ down in the states was able to handle the running of the whole shebang.

Then what happens to all those guys in the Canadian GW office? I'd hate to hear them out on their ears.

Unfortunately I think for the most part that may be true. From the beginning I've thought that this would be less of a merger and more of GW US swallowing up GW Canada. When the merger was first announced a number of people within GW Canada were let go and I reckon what is around now is a sort of skeleton staff to oversee the final transition. I imagine that some people will be taken on by the new North American GW in some role, but I suspect that unfortunately a large number of people in GW Canada's front office will be gone.
