Default 5th edition rulebook FAQ released

GW finally awnsered some 5Th ed questions

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_...k_Oct_2008.pdf

I'm however saddened by this part

Quote:
Q. My Imperial Guard or Black Templar Codex
says that dedicated transports can only be used
by the unit they’ve been bought for. Is that
overruled by the new way dedicated transports
work in 5th Edition?

A. No, if a Codex clearly says that dedicated
transports can only be used during the game by
the unit that bought them, that overrules the
general rule in the rulebook, as normal.
Obviously some armies are stricter than others
about transport regulations!

But Isn't it funny to think that guard might be able to copy eldar tactics slightly?
You mean "Perform Eldar tactics better than Eldar", right? :P
Not unless the Eldar have an obscure Warrior Aspect that revolves around the complete mastery of the common light bulb.

Not terrible news for Guard, since they are up pretty soon anyway. Sucks for Templar, though. Are there any other books that still have the restriction listed?

I don't know...will have to look up the Tau tonight.

The fire warriors might be safe, but the pathfinder leaves me a bit perplex.

Yep seriously need to double check the wording tonight of Fire warriors, pathfinder and especially the devilfish.

To be honest, it does make sense for Guard... except for the fact that we now have the wonderful situation where a Trooper refuses to surrender his Chimera to a Lord-Solar and his Commissar-General. :

Oh man now I have they funny image in my head of the Trooper:

"Screw you Solar, you're not taking my tank this time...I'm tired of being pushed around by you brass. This time you're the one whose gonna do all the walking."

But fun aside, that will require reading over the rules in every codex
So much work.

I feel that this would probably be the best place to put this without making a new thread. I was checking out BoLS from another thread, and noticed that GW has decided to release an FAQ for the Dark Angels stating that they may use the rules for Wargear from the new Marine codex.

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_...dition_FAQ.pdf

I've kind of got mixed feelings about this. One the positive side, I'm glad that I would probably be able to take Terminators with their new Storm Shields (+3 invuln all around), Veterans with special ammunition, Relic Blades, etc. for my Dark Angels. I mean, Relic Blades belong in a chapter whose heraldry is a freakin' sword, right?

On the other hand, I'm kind of wary of it. I feel that power gamers might abuse this, and, even though GW clearly states that it's 'in the interest of fun', it'll cause more problems than it will solve.

I just hope that everyone will take the time to work around this, and I hope that BA/BT players will get this FAQ message as well.

I think it's pretty weak that they took a half page to explain their fence-sitting non-answer. They only made things more obscure by being wishy-washy about it.

As a DA player, I understand that it's not exactly fair that SMurfs get all the new toys and we are stuck with the old stuff... but that's why DA is a separate army. I think this Codex-crossing is problematic, and in a game that seems to have an infinite number of inconsistencies and discrepancies as it is, allowing rules to cross-codex only exacerbates the situation because you end up with instances of an early 3e Wolves Codex being meshed with a 5e SMurf Codex and main rules.

As a DA player I will stay with the codex and keep my +5 invul save for my combat shield "Mc Fisties".

As far as the toys for 5th ED. I have been working the math hammer to keep competitive with my DA list as well as with my basic fallen angel list.

I think I got a competitive list on both armies now

Speaking of Dark Angels, I found this part interesting:

Quote:
Q. Can bikes Turbo Boost during their Scout
move?
A. Yes they now can, but remember that they
have to remain more than 12” away from the
enemy as they move.
However, on page 27 of the Dark Angels Codex in the Ravenwing Bikes and Attack Bikes rules it says:

Quote:
Scouts: Note that no model may make a Turbo Boost move whilst using the Scouts Special Rule.
And sadly, as the new system is that Codex rules come before those in the rulebook (see the example of dedicated transports above for more evidence of this) this would seem to mean that Ravenwing bikers cannot Turbo Boost during their Scout move. Correct me if I'm wrong here, because frankly I'd love to be wrong in this instance.

I emailed GW, and they confirmed it. Codex Rules-as-Written take priority, even if they are older. GW would rather update the rules with new books instead of through the FAQs.
