Default Australian Price Rise

Just got this from my local store

Quote:
Hi Guys, just a reminder that price increases on some items in Games Workshop will take effect NEXT MONDAY, September 29. There are increases on various items across all sections, however most importantly, paints and sprays will increase in price (paints to $6.00, sprays to $22.00, Roughcoat to $28.00) so if you are getting low on some colours this week is a good week to stock up!!
Also, this week is a good week to start a layby if you are saving for a particular item, as if it is stock you will still get it at the pre-increase price!
Regards
Gillian
Getting anoyed at this. I remember when paints were $2 for normal and $3 for metallics! Not cool GW, not cool.

Just when I start painting too.....

If GW wants to impriove sales, make LOTR a specialist game that they have to make special.

(groan)

I've indulged them a few times to buy the $20 spray. No more. Same with the paints. This finally breaches the limits of my sympathy.

I'll keep getting the paints. They're the only decent paints in my area (rural victoria) but I can get better black primer (Proper primer not the spraypaint stuff GW's black spray has become) for $8 a can from Mitre 10 or Bunnings.

Monday the 29th is when prices go up everywhere, not just AU.

US, CA, UK, EU... everyone is getting a 20-25% price hike on metal blisters, paints, primers, and other hobby supplies.

The really annoying part is that even though our dollar is almost as strong as the US dollar at the moment we still pay almost twice as much on a lot of warhammer items. High taxes on luxury items coupled with high tariffs and transport costs and we are always going to be overcharged down under.

I'm just going to start getting Priveteer Press paints. They are only 4 bucks each.

The Warmachine P3 range is $5 at my local store, so I'm getting ripped off!

I'll live with this price range. Arts and Crafts shops usually have a better range of paints. I've nothing unpainted so I'm not going to have an army half in one colour and half in another.
I wonder how GW justifies the paints being so high, I know this raise has to do with the price distribution has with petrol as it is, but everyone else has to distribute paints as well.

GW does full distribution, from them to the store. Stores buy directly from them for product, and it arrives via courier from GW's warehouses.

With other products, excepting some companies (like Battlefront), there is a middleman distributor. Those companies ship product to the distributors via cheapest freight cargo, who handle further distribution. They take a cut but that is their sole business, so their cut is small.

Since GW acts as the distributor as well, they pay for more of the product's transportation costs.

Plus, the British Pound is getting weaker.
