Default Guard Codex Release Date[Update - Maybe a Vulture kit?]

Yours truly, being such a lover of all things Imperial Guard, went snooping around the local Games Workshop to see what he could find.

After talking to several staff members about nothing in particular, one of them pulled me aside and said the release date for the new IG codex would be in May of 2009.

So I asked him what would be in it, and he said:
[x] Release date: May 2009. No word in how the release of this codex fits around the release of other stuff...
[x] Plastic stormtroopers are currently in the green phase, but may or may not be released, depending on how the models look after casting.
[x]The "platoon drill" special rule (squads of the same platoon can shoot through each other without giving the enemy a cover save) will likely be implemented.
[x]The fact that the enemy can get 6 KP for killing a guard troop choice (platoon) while others get only 1 for killing a squad may be fixed.
[x] Nothing was said about a new infantry squad box or a IG flyer of any sort.

Well cheers lads, only the date might be new.
If these have been mentioned before feel free to delete this thread Cadaver.-AC

Because the "avatar" of Rap and similar music is a binged up black guy who holds his gun in such a way as he will probably shoot his own foot off in a gunfight. The avatar of Metal is a bearded, unwashed Scandinavian guy who kills you, your family, your town, your country and the neighbouring country because there isn't much else to do up in the snowy fjords of Vikingland.

Heh, I love how the only way to get information nowadays is to act in a similar fashion as purchasing weapons on the black market.

"Hey, man, check this out. Come 'ere. These documents just outta truck a while back... sez somethin' about May 2009. You interested? Lemme hook you up, man..."

Anyways, excellent news. I am keeping up with my vow never to purchase the 4th Ed Codex, just because I thought it was garbage... hopefully this one will be a big improvement.

Though this leads to obvious questions... they wouldn't release the Codex without a new army, or at least troopers. Could the Spring of 2009 also be the fable Greatcoat Guard release date?

See if you can skulk around a bit more...

That's actually the first I've heard of a May release. Sounds plausible. SWs in Dec/Jan as originally rumored followed by IG and then one would think DE finally for a summer/fall release.

I would hope that IG would get a full plastic treatment like other armies get for a release but the rumored models seem quite odd. Other than STs in plastic the other options seem to be Hellhound, maybe cadian command squad, possible repackaged LR with plastic demolisher bits and from there the rumored updates get more unlikely or unnecessary

i get really suspicious whenever i see this mentioned :shifty:

i can see the rule being "platoons only give away KP if the entire platoon is destroyed" with perhaps an extra one for the command squad and/or commander.

i can just see guardsmen scattering accross the board so you end up with a squad on either side of the palying field > (perhaps squads in platoons will have to remain within 6" of each other or something....)

Look i think the 6KP for a platoon is fair. Since on the other side you have 6 Squads capable of holding objectives for 1 troops choice. If you wanted you could have 36 objective holding squads, your nearest competatoris marines with 12(in comat squads). So don't whinge. Nice to see the guard coming even though I heard they scrapped the Valkirye

they scrapped the valkyrie? if they do, it turns from exiting to a dissapointment. in my opinion.
