Games Workshop Bought By Wizards of the Coast By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN
and VIKAS BAJAJ Published: April 1, 2008 ENGLAND - Gaming company Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. has agreed to buyout the British based miniatures company Games Workshop today after falling stock prices have reached a record breaking low. A spokesman from Games Workshop says "both companies have reached an agreement and will continue to produce excellent games." The company is no stranger to seeking help from outside sources, obtaining the rights to book and movie franchise The Lord of The Rings. "Obtaining The Lord of the Rings range was a huge success, the movies boosted sales and brought in a new generation of gamers. Unfortunately, that wave has passed and we were forced to seek new opportunities." Under the terms of the deal, many of Games Workshops developers have been replaced by WotC employees causing a stir within the gaming community. When asked for comment games developer Jervis Johnson replied "They're afraid of change which is understandable. We're going in a new direction with the games and Wizards will help us achieve that. We're looking to appeal more to the average gamer, Warhammer is after all a children's game.
