Default An interesting rumour about FW---> Plastic models

Doing a lil trawling of warseer today I happened upon this thread

http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126834

And for those who don't want to click the link, here's the interesting part.

Quote:
According to some higher ups here in Canada, GW has decided to go ahead with the plastic kits for both a Valkyrie and a Vulture, as well as the Drop pod. That's what we pretty much already know. What I'm not sure about is this.

He also mentioned that significant progress has been made on a thunderhawk of the plastic variety. Initial hurdles, such as the number of sprues and a variety of other problems have apparently been solved, and it's looking like a plastic Thunderhawk may be a very distinct possibility.
I had heard some mumblings that a Plastic Vulture or Valk (or maybe both) had been made, but the model wasn't that impressive due to the way the pieces fitted together and they decided not to release it. Perhaps they've re-jiggered things so they're up to standard now. Either that or they just want the cash

That would be awesome. It would add alot of spice to armies, I hope there making plastic AA batteries or else some people are going to be pretty screwed. Some guys on that forum want plastic elysians. If they make plastic guard that are normally unique, sure it would be cool, but not unique. Thats the reason I try to never use cadian plastics, there to mainstream. Aircraft would be cool though because it dosent make an army unique because it isnt a whole army. Hope it happens soon.

I asked a manager of GW who I have known for a while and who I trust that if any of these rumours are true. He said theres a good chance of happening.

I really hope youre wrong about that. The Vult and Valk really don't look anything alike when you get down to details. Every part is shaped very differently. They only share the most basic similarity. Kind of like how a Chimera and a Predator share a very basic similarity.

i hope i'm wrong as much as you do, but knowing GW they might cheap-it-out to have one kit insteed of two. it's sad but that's how GW work

Plastic drop pods. Vulture would be nice, but I really think GW has a few things to work out before it actually releases this type of beautiful thing.

I don't doubt it, since from my understanding Plastic costs more to make the molds, but allows a cheaper end result and to make more models cheaper. Hence, plastic is better for popular models, and resin for less popular. Vultures, Valkyries and Drop pods are all very popular.

I don't think a combined kit would be all that bad. The cockpit, wings and boom sections are identical. The differences are in the engines and back/lower fuselage.
