Default My Local Games Workshop Just Closed Down!

Well the Title says it all really.

Last Saturday saw the closure of my local games workshop (Harrow, UK) - it had been there for over 19 years and launched many a buddung 40k general into the hobby, myself included.

Apparently GW have closed quite a few shops in the UK recently, and with Hobby Craft now selling Citadel Miniatures and the rise of specialist stockists does anyone else think that eventually GW shops may one day be a thing of the past? Would be one way of cutting those escalating costs

Also, did anyone else on TO go to harrow what a great last day, brought a tear to my eye...

Over here, the Red Dragon AND the D-Six both closed down last month. There are very few shops left in Belgium... There are a few online shops though, but it doesn't have the same "feel"...

Me : Pulp Fiction? Please, this amount of blood, can best be compared with 'showdown at the house of blue leaves' in Kill Bill 1.
T-002 : Sweet Charles Dickens, that much? It was a man, you know, not a 15-gallon barrel of blood...

i'd heard they were closing that store (i go to the watford store - just mention my screen name and most of the staff will know me )

you can always join my "lot" over in watford. the Vets meet on tuesdays (note to self - tonight!!) at 1830ish and we stay untill about 2100 (sometimes a bit later).

i know its a bit of a trek but we do sometimes get guys fromthe (as was) harrow store come down for a game.

BTW - if you go tonight, they are planning an apocolypse game with 1500pts each (expecting about 6-8 people to take part makes for a 9000-12000pts game). i'm using blood angels and adding a hellhammer if no-one else fields one

GW Warrington is now closed all Sunday and all Monday, supposedly to give us a "more efficient service."

Yeah, I know enough to know what that phrase means. :

We had a GW store in Buffalo, NY (which is where I am) and another in Syracuse NY which was about three hours away by car, and now they're both closed. Now the nearest GW store is eight hours away by car, and that's just not a sacrifice I'm not willing to make. Good thing there are a couple of independent retailers around...

WTF?? Ah, yes, I forgot - not everywhere shops are closed on Sundays, like in good old Austria... We just got two brand new GW-stores in Vienna btw (one about 200 metres from my students dorm... yeah, the hardships of student life ...)

They probably reduced the redshirts in your store, Wargamer - less redshirt means less costs, hence the two days without service (redshirts need time off too, I suppose...).

Hmm, over here in Sydney, Australia, the Eastgardens store closed down on Apocalypse Release day.. I figure that might be because it's a bit out of the way compared to other stores.

But with the original topic, I don't think the popular stores are going to close anytime soon. The UK GW stores listed had a few months advance notice IIRC that they were closing down, though I recall news of more UK stores opening elsewhere.
