Default Slaan influence

Correct me if someone has already thought of this, but could the tau have been influenced by the slaan? Think about it. The tau have developed faster than any other species, their grav tanks can be compared to the eldar who have been around longer than anyone else. Wouldn't that mean that the tau must have been aided in their development? Think about it. The etherals appear out of nowhere, saving the day, then Boom! a little while later, they're up in space, fighting everyone. Im not saying that the influence has to be slaan, although the new etheral models look suspicious, but that some previous race helped out.

Do you mean the slann of Warhammer? Assuming you do, they'd probs be dead, lol. There's mention of "the old ones" in necron stories and such, and these were the original highly advanced aliens of the WHFB slaan, but who knows what happened to them, necrons declaring war on them and all.

Slann are the Old Ones, and apparently there's still some around, but they're very spread out. And yes, they look like Lizardmen from WHFB. And yes, now that you mention it, the Space Pope's bodyguard has LOTS more influence from Lizardmen then anything else. Hmmmm...

No.

The Slaan aren't the Old Ones. The Slaan worked for the Old Ones and were their most trusted servents, but are a completely different race.

Yes.

The Slaan and Old Ones of Fantasy are the Slaan and Old Ones of 40K.

There are still some Slaan left, but they have taken a more back seat stance to the Galaxy and are just letting things unfold, they would have lost most of their power with the loss of the Old Ones and the coming of the Enslavers.

The Enslavers are the things that come about from the Old Ones creating more and more psychic races to battle the Necrons. Also the reasons the Necrons went into slumber.

There are thought to be no Old Ones remaining.

It is a possibility that the Slaan have had a little to do with the Tau, maybe. They still no doubt have some contact with the Eldar [as they would be one of the few races the Eldar would respect, what with them being at their peak when the Eldar were still fighting without guns and were influential in the advancement of the Eldar].

Well, i've collected WHFB for years beofre switching game systems. The old ones were exceptionally powerfull wit advanced space ships and such asortments of technology when the warhammer world was starting.

They went away forever basically, perhaps that was the same time when necrons were brought about by the C'tan and war unveloped? who knows, back to point anyway.

The new ethereals would coincide with slann on their own hovering platforms of WHFB. Prehaps, though now this is just speculation, the old ones saw in the tau the potential to bring good and justice - everything the tau empire stands for - back to the universe once more.

Personally, I refuse to acknowledge "Old One" fluff. They belong in Warhammer, and the two games systems aren't supposed to be linked...

I thought the Eldar were connected to the Old Ones somehow...does that mean you ignore Eldar fluff and such, too?

The Old One fluff is only recently related to the Eldar.* Almost all of it comes from the Necron Codex, which basically reordered the entire back-story to 40k.* Prior to this, it was always about the conflict between the mortal races and Chaos.* The Necron codex reorganized the playing field, placing Chaos (in its original form controlled by the Old Ones) and the older races like Eldar and Slaan on the same side against the C'Tan and the Necrontyr. As you might guess, this does not always sit well with long-time players.

does that mean that the tau are too young to have been influenced by the old ones?

Probably, unless there are a few surviving hermits that escaped the Enslaver plague and the C'Tan.
