Hey all,
I'm not particularly familiar with the Chaos codex, but I was wondering what sort of force Ahriman would be likely to lead. Being basically exiled from the Thousand Sons, would he have any Rubrics with him? Or is he more likely to have standard Chaos Marines? Or a mix?
I'm just interested in what forces he would lead around (possible army theme?), so thanks for the advice.

I'm not too keen on chaos space marine fluff, but I think a theme that is part thousand sons and part black legion would be the most likely.

In WD308 (UK) there were rules designed for a unit called "the Chosen of Ahriman." However as this unit uses the rules from the old Codex Chaos Space Marines, I doubt if this unit is legal anymore, alas it's probably worthwhile just to have a look I suppose. I could imagine that Ahriman, like anyother Sorcerer of the Thousand Sons Legion would have a bodyguard of Thousand Sons warriors around with him 24/7. Also, Ahriman has joined countless Warbands and exchanged his services for forbidden lore, magical items or a foothold into the Black Library. There is no concrete fluff about the company Ahriman keeps, so I would suggest doing some research on Ahriman and the Thousand Sons, after that you're free to shape your force however you want it to be!

Actually, Ahriman featured in one of the Dawn of War books, the second one IIRC. He had with him a bodyguard of rubric marines as well as other sorcerors.

And I thought there was an Apoc data sheet that had Ahriman with a unit of sorceror's and a couple units of rubric marines.

I would imagine that Ahriman would not have many demons, oblits or the heavily mutated. But its been 10,000 years, perhaps he's learned some tolerance for the mutant.

If I'm not mistake, he is on a quest to find the Black Library and I can see him working with almost anyone that might offer any assistance.

Ok so basically Rubrics and normal Chaos Marines, with the possibility of other factions allied to him. Which leads me to ask about his relationship with the Thousand Sons. I know he was banished from the Planet of Sorcerors, but is he still part of the Thousand Sons? Does he still work with them and aid them? And would members of the Thousand Sons have gone with him into exile or would he have been sent out alone?

Ahriman and his cabal were forced out of the legion for what they did. I don't think that the 1K sons would help him out. As far as I know, Ahriman only has his cabal to depend on, but will sell his aid out to those who can afford it.

Well, you must consider the state of the Thousand Sons Legion... it's not a Legion like the Death Guard or Emperor's Children anymore, it is basically a society of sorcerers with ranks of automated bodyguards. Rubirc Marines would not care who they serve, since they have no brain. If Ahriman slays the leader of another Rubric Squad, he could very easily take command of the rubric marines.

So, essentially the other half of the Thousand Sons are tricksy sorcerers. They would no doubt work with Ahriman, if he had something to offer them or it suited their plans. You must remember, he saved the other sorcerers from mutation and made them much more powerful... it would be very easy for Ahriman to fight alongside Thousand Sons warriors.
