So I'm considering taking up Chaos, but I'm wondering-which legion? Alpha Legion/Night Lords are fairly cool in concept, but Black Legion are also quite cool, though having said that who can say no to a pack of Khorne Berserkers sprinting across to smash the enemy? >
![]() What I'm asking is simple-are there any inherent differences between legions? I mean if I take up Alpha Legion,do I gain access to any new units? I've combed the Chaos Codex(the original Good Book ) and this site looking for differences but just can't find them conclusively(the list of important topics seemed useful but it wasn't concrete as there were no stats, so if there are any differences, could someone point me to where I can find them?

haHA! i recently asked a very similar question. Under the new codex, most warbands take up the guise of renegades, who have only recently turned to Chaos. These renegades have access to any real units of Chaos with no discrimination. The only inherent differences are in play styles. You could play an army of Khorne World Eaters, which would be very strong in close combat. However, you could also create a Night Lords army which is focused on assault. You can give the Mark of Khorne to most units, and this increases the attack value of the unit. Most legions will play relatively the same, slightly generalized. The only difference is that specialist legions deal exclusively in their chosen form of combat, so take much more skill to play and tend to be more expensive.
The only REAL limiting factor when deciding on a legion is that sorcerers and Khorne do not bode well, so it's a little shady using them in the same army. [If one of the moderators wants to correct any copyright infringements I have made, that would be much appreciated. I am unlearned in lawyer speech, it burns the soul...] |

no there are no differences rules wise when playing different legions.
but they will probably release codexes for the different legions, though this is far away.. a few years if we are lucky. |

In the new dex all the legions are the same, faceless warbands. They exist in name only.

And yes, people can tell you "no." However, I wouldn't expect to get a "yes" every time. Luckily it's not hard to bring a backup list from the standard codex in case you run into that type of gamer. |

The undevided chapters are great for those starting chaos, they can get a feel for which marks they like Then they can go with a legion that is deicated to said mark. For example if they do black legion and like nurgle units, they can switch to Death Guard.
