Default Would it be legal to...

Heya,

I was just wondering if it would be legal/allowed to represent a Summoned Greater Daemon by using the LotR Balrog model?

Yeah, possibly, Just add something to it to make it look more Deamonic (if you can do that to it anymore than what it is)

As long as it is based on a base no smaller than the one that a normal greater daemon comes on, you should be set.

Just make the base the same size, and a little more demonic, & you should be set.

in friendly games, yes, i thought that GW had a rule about using LOTR models or bits for 40k or Fantasy, unless that's been lifted, then you may not be able to use him in GW tournaments.

Legal doesn't matter unless you're going to an event where they uphold `rules.' The model is produced by GW. That's as legal as it gets. However, unfortunately, GW has some kind of stupid thing at their big events that says you can't use LOTR figs as anything but LOTR figs, which is really stupid since their other rule is just that so long as it's GW or mostly GW parts, it's 100% legal so long as you follow WYSIWYG. How did this come to be? There is a frothy wizard in a tower, rolling a 7 sided die that always does quarky crap on his chart with only 2 options, so one moment it's great, one moment it's retarded. Go figure they pay someone like that.

Cheers,

So, would all of the winged carnifex conversions using balrog wings be against the rules too?

I was going to use blood thirster wings on daemon prince (to troublesome btw) but If it portrays what the carnifex, or whatever you have in mind, within reasonable circumstance, you should be alright.

It is not specifically a GW rule, it is all down to the Copyright and licensing of LOTR. you cannot field a 40k model at a GW event that uses any LOTR parts, or any LOTR models in another game. Its all down to the licensing agreement they have with New Line.

and yes, a winged tyrant that uses Balrog wings cannot be used in a tournament.

I've found most GW events are fine with it because they all do it too. As long as your model is 60% or so fantasy/40k they won't put you in the sin bin and tell you not to use it. Although if you win anyting it cannot be photographed for any publications.
