Default New to Chaos

I have the new Chaos codex, and no models yet. I've been trying to come up with a good 2000 point list of Tzeentch. So far, this is the list I've come up with.

HQ – 450
Daemon Prince – 175/15
Wings, Mark of Tzeentch, Warptime

Chaos Lord – 175/30
Mark of Tzeentch, Daemon Weapon, Disc of Tzneetch

Greater Daemon – 100/50

Troops – 1016
9 Thousand Sons – 254/40
Inferno Bolts, Doombolt, Personal Icon
9 Thousand Sons – 254/40
Inferno Bolts, Doombolt, Personal Icon
9 Thousand Sons – 254/40
Inferno Bolts, Doombolt, Personal Icon
9 Thousand Sons – 254/40
Inferno Bolts, Doombolt, Personal Icon

Fast Attack – 540
2 Chaos Spawn – 80
2 Chaos Spawn – 80
6 Chaos Raptors – 190
Icon of Tzeentch, Aspiring Champion, Power Weapon
6 Chaos Raptors – 190
Icon of Tzeentch, Aspiring Champion, Power Weapon
Total – 2006

I wanted to stay as close to Tzeentch as possible and avoid unfluffy units. I think I've done that, but the only stretch are the Raptors. How I model them should fit them in fluff wise though.

Model wise, I was thinking the Lord of Tzeentch model from Warhammer Fantasy for the Chaos Lord. The Greater Daemon of Tzeentch for the Great Daemon. For the Daemon Prince, I'm not too sure about the size, Warmaster Lord of Change of Tzeentch.

As for the Raptors, I was thinking of buying the old Warhammer Discs of Tzeentch and put Chaos Marines with Bolt Pistols and CCW on top. Has anyone done this before?

If there are any tips for me, or anything I should avoid, please tell me. The first models I was going to buy were 2 boxes of Thousand Sons and the Lord of Tzeentch boxes. This gives me the 2 troops and 1 HQ to make a list. I was going to add on little by little, as I don't have enough to buy a lot at first. Thanks for the help.

Im not going to break down your list, as I feel warhammer should be about what you want to play with, models you think are cool. Not about uber competition.

Just a quick question of two about your list, your cult marines, do they have the aspiring sorcerer in there? I think they have to be taken (not sure though, don't use K son's myself) and if they are, what power do they have (again not sure if they have to take a power or not). One thing to consider, maybe a rhino or two, just for getting those lovely ap3 bolters in rapid fire range.

I love the fact you are using spawn, if any chaos God would use spawn, it's tzeentch.

All good. I assume they'll hang out with the Raptors?

You might want to add a rhino or two, as well as taking 'Wind of Chaos' for taking out tougher critters/tanks.

I'd actually like to add some Raptors to my Sons forces. After a few games you might want to swap out the Spawn for a Havoc squad with heavy weapons- your list might suffer versus the bigger tanks out there.

As Deneris mentioned, the only big problem I see in this list is anti-tank support. Personally, I'd take some Obliterators, but I don't know how 'Thousand Sons' they are. I'd probably get rid of the personal icons, the spawn, and maybe some upgrades (which should get you 3-4.)

I've changed the Asipring Sorcerers in the Thousand Sons to have either the Bolt of Change or Wind of Chaos to higher str to the list. Also, I added Bolt of Change to the Daemon Prince.

I'd like to get Rhinos, but I would have to drop a lot, and I can't really decide what I can drop. The Daemon Prince and Chaos Lord are already bare bones. Then Thousand Sons are basically bare bones as well.

I eventually want to build the list up to 2500. For that I would add Oblitorators and probably some more Spawns of Chaos, Rhinos, and Lesser Daemons.

I think I've read somewhere that GW is going to come out with a codex for just Daemons? Has anyone else heard of that as well? Thanks again for all the response.

I'm not saying you should, but two spawn can get you two rhino's. Personally I think you should keep them in there, you iether love the fluff or the models, or both, either way I reckon they should stay, but you could drop them for rhino's.

When you build up your list, I would get the oblits first, maybe a unit of three, either that or havoks, but oblits are cheaper so (shrugs)

GW may put out a daemon codex, wiether this can be used with the chaos dex remain to be seen, but GW are released plastic god specific daemons, so it would be a bad buisiness decission to not let 40K use God specific daemons, hopefully they follow the logic and allow them in chaos marines armies. Personally If you want a pure cult army (like what you're building) then I wouldn't get any lesser daemons in your army (keep the greater though, they are awesome close combat musscle) just go with what your doing, maybe through some 'normal' marines with icon of tzeentch for some more heavy weapon goodness

oblits are mercanaries who will work for anyone... so you could take them in a k-sons list.
