It would help if you gave some idea of what kind of army you're fielding against him. Obviously against Tau what you're usually going to want to do is get into CC by one means or another, but there are plenty of ways to do that depending on how you like to play.

Get fast stuff. Assault him. One chaos marine will beat 12 firewarriors often enough.
Or, in the short term, bring defilers, hide behind terrain of your own, and shell him with indirect fire. But, generally, assault him. Here's a good idea: 6 chosen. All with chaos bikes All with daemonic armour (2+ save). All with mark of whateveryouwant half with powerfists, half with power weapons Turn 1: turboboost. Now you're 24 inches closer to him, and have 6 fearless loonies with a 2+ inv. save ready to assault him. With a 2+ inv save, he's not going to drop that many of you. So, on turn 2, you have another 12" and a 6" charge. If you can't get into combat with him betweem 36" of movement, deployment, and a 6" charge, hang it up, and play something easier like chess.

In any case, the biker idea is still a great one, though possibly the best Marks for the "biker bomb" are now Nurgle (T6) and Tzeentch (2+ Invulnerable on the boost). Add a Lord on a bike, and *poof*- instant chunky Tau stew. Good luck, though.

It is the old codex. I was guessing that our friend here was using that as he says he has been playing, and the new codex isn't widely circulated enough yet for me to expect that was what he was using.
However, new codex tau beaters: 2 slaanesh hq's with lash of submission. daemon princes or sorcerors work. two big units of plague marines for troops. Even s5 weapons will have a hard time getting past their T5, 3+ save and 4+ feel-no-pain bikes are still able to turbo-boost, and even a 3+ inv save isn't bad. But, give em an icon of tzeentch and that 3+ becomes a 2+ inv save, to get you past the turn after you turbo, but before you charge. On the other hand, those two lashes might just mean you're assaulting on turn 1 anyway... add other stuff to flavour. maybe some khorne, you know, just to round out the party. I hear the new codex is all about that. |

move your sorceror first then lash him towards turbo boosting tzeentch or nurgle bikers >
![]() as for the actual cc it should be easy enough (one time a squad of 4 csm with mark of nurgle held off 2 squads of firewarriors 4 drones and a pack of kroot without taking any casualties)

Hmmm... how about the "Lash Fed Blender" idea? The Lash-using sorceror drags a unit closer to "the blender", AKA a Khorne Lord with that nasty Khornate demon weapon (Bloodfeeder?). And, as far as I can figure from the 'Dex, the blender can be mounted on a bike (Until they probably nix that in a FAQ)...
