Default Urge to collect an LATD army

I have this huge urge to collect a lost and the damned army, not for the gameplay style (although slow, numerous combat oriented horde will construct with my firepower oriented mobile eldar specialist force) but just because I've had a vision of awesomeness in my head, based somewhat on the Persian army from 300.

A charismatic and machiavellian lord governor with illusions of grandeur has entranced his entire backwards system into an ecstatic worship of him, elevating his entire dynastic lines into sons and favourites of gods. His entire system adores him and in return he has granted them a rule of utmost compassion, tolerance and mercy. Tolerance of religion, tolerance of creed, tolerance of all genetic make ups. Formerly oppressed mutants and local citizens join their hands to revel in a utopia of corruption. It was an age of pleasure, compassion, self improvement and hope. Whilst mysteriously replacing the local ecclesiarchy is a new shadowy group known only as "The Companions".

The companions is the dark side of our protagonist god-emperor (not to be confused with The Emperor of course), a special unit which roams in split cells all around the system, subtly enforcing the rule of the god-emperor. Each agent is a superb warrior, diplomat, politician and can at will commandeer local PDFs of the system.

The corruption of the system has been passed off by neighbouring groups as simply localized eccentricities, the close proximity of this system with the Tau empire means imperial rule is as tenuous and enlightened as ever. But it was not long before an over-eager captain of a spacemarine company on a self imposed crusade brought the fires of war to this paradise system.

And slowly, the defenders of Eden showed their true forms. Mutant's once exotic and beautiful differences now became deathly weapons. Hordes of angelic beings tore their way out of the warp to join the battle. Their once beloved ruler was all the more beautiful, but now there was something unnatural. Visible changes took place all around the system. And though initially shocked, the local PDFs were quick to aid their new allies, united by a common cause of hope and passion to drive out the narrow minded puritans who would seek to judge them on their own home worlds.

Shocked and unfooted by the betrayal of their rearward support PDF units, whilst under the increasingly desperate assault of frenzied deamons and mutants from before them, the marines came to a grim realization, the light of the emperor has forsaken this desolate place, Tzeentch and Slannesh will be the mistresses of this world now. Surrounded by all sides and with no way out, the company of spacemarines fought to the inevitable end, and with them took down an entire world.

With this the rest of the worlds of the system rallied, "the freedom of hope" became a rallying cry, and soon, the entire system stood ready to repel their next invaders.

The god-king and his companions however were far too aware of the grimness of the situation. Even if they stayed as passive as possible, they would have the most, two centuries, before a crusade or an inquisitorial investigation would bring annihilation upon the paradise they sought to create. And with this, the god-king began to ever so slightly, but surely more often, heed the calls of his two mysterious patron powers from beyond...

Eden must be preserved, no matter the cost...

My idea of this army is to have two sections to it. The bulk of the army being frontline mutants who are sent to swamp any enemy positions and hold them up.

The personal army of the god-king is a force of well armed imperial guards with armour support that comprises of the core of the army. (represented by traitors).

Whilst the additional flavour of the army comes from the deamons that comes aiding (thinking about deamonettes or screamers and flamers), maybe a greater deamon (lord of change probably), defiler perhaps.

The Companions I plan to represent with 3 aspiring champions and 1 kroot shaper.

And as for the god-king himself, here i am confused, I don't think he should be allowed to actually do any fighting. Maybe I'll just make a model for him on his giant throne (carried by slaves with attendants, minstrels and dancing girls, and not mechanical, as all respectable thrones should be) and just plop him inside of the battle gazing over the fight for flavour.

Now, I do not know much about Chaos, can you guys just tell me if there's some huge rule breach or impracticality or incongruency of fluff here?

And no I don't plan to use squads of chaos spacemarines for fluff reasons, and big mutants and spawns seems too slow for me (remebering I'm used to playing Eldar)

Heya,

I think the LATD is not for you for this.
I have a suggestion though: Witch Hunters.

Zealots are giant mobs of cheap infantry, very similar to Mutants (and they cost less too). Priests can be used all over to lead. Your `throne' can be for real--Karamazov, in the walking throne--model this as slaves carrying him on a platform of somekind. You can still get the I.G. in here for the firepower if you want, or you can use the Sisters, and model them as something else. Mainly though, it's the `elites' if you look--you have the Arco Flaggalents, repentia, assassins, etc. You can get artilery, or you can get tons of penitent engines, raging forward.

The WH horde can offer you more in the line of what seems to me that you're after. The Damned lost a lot of their worth when you only use mutants and a few guardsmen additions. But the WH horde even has units which match more of your fluff to a better degree.

Cheers,

So a witch hunter army representing my fluff you mean?

I don't know, it's more the image of this that compels me, because I hate the entire holier than thou image of WH.

But what would you take in an LATD army to make it worthy then? I don't like big mutants, hounds and spawns, and I'd probably use daemons for those roles.

Otherwise it's mainly the characters that I'm drawn to, all the customization LATD gives, and the mixture of regular IG with mutants, possibly winged mutants and what not.

Yeap,

And to build a better actual army based on your ideas. Most of the things that help make the damned tick are being left out of your L&tD force. So the WH have a better fluff line up for you. Many factions of the Inquisition can be used fluff wise, and the hierarchy and power is very much the same. The Rules & Fluff backup simply do the Persian army thing a bit better, considering the index character stuff you want.

Cheers,

Oh okay, in that case though, can I have like a corrupt inquisitor kind make himself the god emperor of a backwater system whilst the giant inefficient bureacracy tries to catch up to him?

Kind of like those CIA agents that just went out of control and set themselves up as gods to the locals?

Of course you can. Anything is possible in Inquisition, just like Lost and the Damned. But there's actually infinite fluff possibility for an Inquisitor to be used to do anything pretty much.

And if you want Chaos models, using the WH rules, that's totally fine. Anything goes.

Cheers,
