Default Chaos army list 1000pts.

Hello.
I've recently written this chaos space marine list, calculated it about 10 times, got it wrong 9 times, now it's correct and i'd like your views on how it'd do against any enemy.

HQ:
Chaos lord.
Bolt pistol
Dark blade
Daemonic resilience
Spiky bits
Veteran skill: Infiltrate
121pts (Joins assault squad).

Troops:
Chaos marine squad.
7 men (Bolters)
2 plasma guns
118pts

Chaos marine squad.
10 men (Bolters)
Heavy bolter
145 X 2 = 290pts

Chaos marine squad.
5 men (Bolters)
Missile launcher
80pts

Chaos marine assault squad.
11 men (Bolt pistol and chainsword)
Aspiring champion with Bolt pistol and Power weapon with daemonic mutation.
Veteran skill: Infiltrate
210pts

Heavy support:
6 havocs.
3 autocannons
Tank hunters
162pts

Total points: 981
Model count: 50

I have 19 points left, i've thought of adding infiltrate to the havoc's, or the plasma squad (leaving me 2 points over 1000pts).

General tactics:
Heavy bolter squads give some mass fire power towards targets, same with missile launcher squad (that doubles as a foot slogging objective taker, finding posistions in cover and using it well). The plasma squad's ment to engage heavy infantry. In my area there has been an increase in Deathwing armies, if i decide to follow the dark power's of chaos, i think this squad will be priority for Deathwing armies to butcher with firepower. Another tactic is fear by number's, 50 is alot for power armour in my opinion.

What are your thoughts?

That's a lot of bodies!

I'd suggest moving one marine from the plasma gun squad into the assault squad since extra bolter's aren't really helping the plasma teams objectives, but an extra body is always nice in an assault unit.

The only thing that I can see as a pretty major problem is the total lack of speed in your list. You've got a very fearsome firebase, but you might find some mobile armies running rings around you.

I'd suggest a very simple way to fix this. Use the alpha legion rules so you can get cheap infiltration. That frees up a total of 32 points right off, because your lord and assault squad are cheaper.

Spend one point to move one marine from the plasma squad to the assault squad, and add infiltrate to him.

31 points left, plus the 18 you already had gives you 49 points.

Add infiltrate to both heavy bolter squads = 20 points
Add infiltrate to the havocks = 6 points
Add infiltrate to the missile squad = 5 points
Add infiltrate to the plasma squad = 6 points
Total: 37

You have 12 points left. You also have 12 assault marines. Give those 12 marines move through cover!

Now you have an army that deploys AFTER the enemy does, has tons of bodies, lots of fire power and a deceptively quick foot slogging assault squad.

This army should work fairly well, and will be great fun in Cities of death games.

Firstly that gives you an extra 10 points right away

That sounds like a good idea, this is my own chapter, i could rationalise that before they turned to chaos, the chapter (the Scythes of Vengeance), we're forced to fight using guerrilla tactic's against the Eldar.

The main reason for the extreme lack of speed is that through out my area, there has been no really speedy enemies, although that may change, especially with the new dark angels codex and the ravenwing, so i see where your coming from, be prepared.

Also, i am considering keeping the army entirely infantry based, to go with the background.

I see a problem with the move through cover, as the lord doesn't have it, it can't be used?

Although i could keep them seperate, as the lord is not AS likely to die.

Indeed, that or perhaps they've been forced to use Guerilla tactics after leaving the imperium, since they are no longer able to maintain any tanks or transports.

If no one else in your area has a speedy army a fully infiltrating force will do all that much better. People won't know how to deploy if you don't start with anything on the board. Then its nice and easy for you to deploy in a way that finds holes and flaws with their set up.

No problem at all! The Chaos lord is an independent character so he starts with Move through cover and skilled rider!
If the squad he's with has the same ability he doesn't lose it.

Alternatively that assault squad is in dire need of some frag grenades.

That is pure genius.

I think I'll do that, I've done calculations, which are probably wrong, it comes up to 988Pt's, conveniently it's enough to give the assault squad frag grenades, it add's up to 1000Pt's exactly, not bad but i doubt it's correct.

Im grateful for the help.

I think i may remove the 5 man squad, i think somehow the point's could be used elsewhere.
Maybe add more havoc's and another autocannon.

Which leaves me with....12pt's left again, add mutation to the aspiring champion, thats 2pts left over.
998pts total.
and i only lose 2 marines.

Awesome. That'll be quite a nasty list for your opponent. Good luck with it!

Also I didn't mention this earlier but I meant to. I like how this represents a renegade marine force more than a truly chaos marine group. You don't have marks and very few daemonic gifts items.

Its just a lot of super skilled super soldiers causing a lot of grief for your enemy!

That is what I am going for, I do like the whole idea of a chapter fully dedicated to chaos, but i prefer renegade forces, they have more flexability when it comes to writing background and other idea's about the chapter as a whole in my opinion.

When I build up the force, i am considering using a mixture of loyal and chaos marine pieces, mainly because of the fact you get more bolter's in the loyal box, but I think it'll show that they are renegade marines fallen to the darker power's, rather then devout worshippers.

This could mean a few rivalries against select traitor legion's, Word bearer's spring to mine but this is off topic i think.

You can save 10pts by giving the Asp Champion in the Assault unit a power weapon instead of a power fist. Since your lord has a dark blade, you won't really need a power fist, although it is nice to have. A good combo I find on the Lord, is equipping him with D. Strength as well as the Dark Blade, upping his strength to 7. just a little something to think about.
