Default NightLord tactics (How best to use them?) Now with list

Hello players of chaos,

With the up comming campaign I thought Id best get some ideas together on how best to use my Night Lords.

Havent posted a proper list before so please tell me if I put it up wrong etc.

HQ- Lord Vangesh
Pair of lighting claws
D.Flight
D.Aura
Mutations
Meltabomb
Visage
Furious charge
Total: 165 points

HQ- Lt Duxx
Combibolter
Power weapon
Bionics

Heavy Support - Not sure Open

I was thinking basic plays like using 30+ Raptors to use hit and run to break squads apart and using a squad of bikers (with teleport homers) to teleport squads in for heavy hitters like Oblits and terminators.

So please post away general tactics (basically for the fast attack Chaos armies

Ahhhh Nightlords...my favourite!

How big is your list going to be because you can at max fit 2 maybe 3 raptor squads in a 1000 point game. Keep raptors behind cover, not in cover! Remember you are usually faster then your foe so you can force him to play to your strengths. I like using my bikes as a heavy hitting squad by pimping the ac and giving them furious charge. In most cases they will crush anything they touch. I eagerly await your list >

Not bad, not bad. Although I still think no Chaos army is complete without Berserkers :P.

That list is a little hard to read, think you could change the colour of the text?


personally I'd get rid of the oblits-for theme more than anything else-and then add to the troops a bit (I don't like min/maxed squads but that's me)

you've got a lot of melta guns though, Str 8 and AP one should tke it out with enough shots.

'll post a NL tactica tomorrow. For now I'll just make some general comments on the list.

HQ - You really do not have to overspend on HQs and chosen. Too many points ae snk into too few units. The heart and soul of most Undivided lists are CSM. They are tough and flexible. You can outfit them for shooting or for cc. I love plas/melta squads and large CC squads myself. In a NL list I give them all infiltrate but if you have the points four or five of these squads are very nice each designed for specific tasks. Taking a few rhinos could work well at 2000 points.

Elites - I do not mind taking two Oblits, though perhaps its a bit unfluffy. Start them on the table and you have a decent fire base. Now you could use a havoc squad, infiltrated with four autocannons and tank hunter instead as fire support but Oblits are cheaper. Possessed and Chosen are another matter. Twenty-five percent of your army is in two squads. btw are the points right for the possessed? As far as I know you can take a squad of ten in a rhino for 95 more points then you have listed.

Fast Attack - Those are big expensive squads. I will not argue that ten strong last longer then seven. But seven will free up points. At the most I would take two squads of Raptors or one squad of Raptors and one squad of Bikers. Why? I love Furies. Cheap, strong, lots of attacks they make a perfect spearhead.

So drop the chosen and possessed, add furies and have your HQs fitted out to either join the Raptors or bikers.

I'm not saying your list will not work though. It is risky but if you get the right terrain and our opponent deploys in a manner that you can take advantage of hois forces its a tough list. But all those Raptors are very fragile and you have very few models for so many points.

i did say use only 5 possessed didn't I? or was it 8.

I love looking back to yesterday, to see how we performed.
Then, looking to today, and seeing how we've improved.

Unfortunately, looking back to the things posted here, I realised I can now do much better :3

Then you should be playing Tau

Chaos armies have perhaps some of the best gear available to tool up Lords to be cc monsters (whilst stature is against NL doctrine they can still take a lot of gear)


i'd take D. strength, D. Aura, D. Flight, D. visarge master crafted lightning claws and spikey bits (and maybe Furious charge).


that gives you a nice little HQ that strikes hard and precice in combat like a ninja, and who doesn't like ninjas?
