I'm thinking of creating a fleet based Dark Founding chapter that vanished beyond the galactic rim and returns mutated. I think I will take their "Ghost" literally and make them mysteriously hard to hurt.
I think using the Night Lords Template, but giving all of them the MoCU and Stealth Adepts to represent them might work well.

Hey, go for it man. But... that doesn't really set them apart from Night Lords, who are MoCU and can all have stealth adepts (and probably in most night lord armies, do all have stealth adepts).
I would personally be more inclined to base them on the Alpha Legion (whose colour scheme i'm not particularly fond of anyway), so you can use mass infiltration. But the reasoning could be due to their mysterious ability to turn up out of nowhere, kinda like Legion of the Damned, rather than tactical pride. No cultists though. To put a fair limit on yourself (cause cheap infiltration is not fair without an imposed limit - for alpha's it is that summoning must be done through cultists and can only be Pack type daemons), maybe you could only summon fast daemons (which is a limit cause they are generally not as devastating as daemonettes, bloodletters etc). Alternatively, maybe could also say all units MUST purchase stealth adepts on top of the optional infiltration (at 2 points per model). But this needs a real limitation now. You could say they were spared in the warp by some lesser known chaos god(s), hence they are chaosy but not enough to get MoCU, they are not devoted enough to be able to do any summons, and the only veteren skill they MUST purchase is move through cover but at only at the cost of 2 points per model. They may have no vehicles (including bikes) nor obliterators, but may have jump packs. They may have only 2 heavy support choices (for havoc squads), but one extra troops choice (kind of making up for the fact they can't have cultists). The point is that if you put a heavy weapon in all your troops to totally take advantage of infiltrate + stealth, then you have to pay the penalty of wasting points on move through cover. Thats a pretty nice stealthy army you'd have right there, and with some appropriate kinds of limitations that I am just throwing around really. They're kind of like Unmarked chaos. Basically it means you have to pay a on each model a comparable amount the the cost of a mark of one of the 4 major gods. You get some nice abilities, but at a cost (in both points and limitations). |
