Default SNL: Shooty Night Lords

Is such an idea workable? The thought came to me when I was wondering how to represent a divergent Loyalist Chapter. Simply put, it involves exploiting Stealth Adeptry and an unmoddified FOC.

Oh I believe it is quite possible. May not be as Nighy-Lordy as a fast raptor-fury kinda list, but I'm sure it could work. Infiltration can be quite useful for setting up shots and Stealth Adept is a VERY underused skill, but if you like to hug terrain, it works

Most certainly.

Stealth adept does zero for a fast moving bike/raptor assault oriented Night Lord army. Stealth Adept is only useful in cover--which means, not moving very much. You would be able to be one of the most resilient marine armies, sitting in 4+ cover, after infiltrating with plasma, lascannons, heavybolters, etc. That's tons of basic marines with the perfect guns, able to take more punishment than the heaviest armored tanks. And if you want to get even more dirty, drop a rhino in the mix for instant 4+ cover, wrecked or not, and stealth adept transforms that into 3+ cover. You can challenge star cannons with that kind of save.

Cheers!

Thanks for the input & encouragement... I'd never thought of the Rhino trick, the only problem with it is that my main opponent (Tau) can auto-penetrate AV11 without having to think about it (shudder).

For starters, how do these choices look?

Chaos Lord - 120pts
Kai Gun, Power Weapon
Stealth Adept, Daemonic Aura

12 Chaos Space Marines - 228pts
Plasmagun, Missile Launcher
Aspiring Champion w/ Powerfist
Stealth Adepts

Also, as part of my armies theme... is it viable to give squad leaders Chaos Spawn and Hounds (we largely don't use Majority Save rules)?

I have frequently been given the advice to keep the CSM squads smaller, and I think its a good idea in this case too. Smaller squads will give you more special and heavy weapons, as well as more flexiblity and they are easier to hide in terrain as well. Keep your squads between 6 and 8 strong, and your list will be more optimized.

The Eldar Rule:

"If any model with the special rule Eldar! is on the battlefield the player may instantly declare victory and arrogantly storm out of the room. They may also claim any models, cash or cookies that are in the room."

I want to put to the record that I wholeheartedly support this rule and think GW should adopt it whenever they redo the Eldar codex. Cash and cookies are always good, and arrogantly storming out is an underrated pasttime

A little off topic..but when I saw the Topic title, i thought saturday night live had a show about nightlords :

Alright, back on topic, of course Nightlords can be shooty!
Like Mal said, whats the point of stealth adept, if all of your troops are charging in the middle of battlefield?
They are a fast army, not a close combat army like World Eaters. A fast army just means that it can move around quick, and that it's in position to counter the enemy's deployment.

Another option are rhinos. Rhinos can be a very useful choice for Nightlords, allowing the marines to
speedily travel across the board.
But, in a degree, it seems sort of unfluffy. The Nightlords specialize in stealth skills, and how unstealthy is it to have 3 rhinos, rampaging across the wartorn battlefield.

Infiltrate like a crazy mofo.

When i think stealth i think small squads as small as possible brining the bag of tricks with them. If what you want is a bunch of marine squads sneaking up on the enemy then unleashing all kinds of hell night lords can do it.

My plan here would be 5 man squads with infiltrate and stealth adept. bring alot of missile launchers and heavy bolters.

Lord or lt w/lightning claws and deamonic speed (and your skills of course)

Chosen o yah definatly bring a small unit of your elites warrior along i'd say 6. 2 melta and 2 asp w/pweps and dstr. Fun with guns and swords.

Troops 5 man squads w/hb or ml(las if u like em) asp(dstr,pwep)

For your heaves take a bunch of havocs in small squads with 2 heavy weapons in the squad. Makes em even harder to eradicate.

This army type works well for the hold one contend 2 stratagy. More or less your opponent wont be able to remove your marines and his assault squads get eaten alive unless they brought frag grenades to the party. And with your mass firepower you can ladder your units(keeping your units always over 12'' apart.

You could toss in a dread and a rhino to shield it if u like 2ccw dreads can be the life of the party in a list like this.

Basically you control the los channels and by god you can rock em.
