Default The Kais...

Well, here I go again...at first it might be quite similar, but after a few sentences or paragraphs, you'll notice the change . Again, comments/constructive critisism are more than welcome

Shas'la Shovah walked on the rough path, his hoofed feet making small indentations in the mud-like sand of Dal'yth. By his sides were seemingly endless plains, illuminated by the final rays of light before dusk. His face was expressionless, but his eyes were deep and understanding. He finally strode into the safe walls of Mont'a, a small settlement consisting of about three hundred Tau, walking down the paved walkways, surrounded by domed buildings and men hurrying around to do last minute tasks. The people of Mont'a were friendly and open-hearted, and Shovah knew most of the inhabitants by name. He finally reached his home, one of the smaller buildings. He opened the large white door quietly, hoping not to wake the children. His wife sat in a small chair, reading a scroll of some sort. She nodded in acknowledgment silently, and then went back to her reading. He left the room without a word, and lay down on his bed. Before long, he was off to a deep sleep...
In about an hour, Shovah woke slowly, his eyes drooping heavily as he stretched. He got out of bed and changed into cleaner clothing - a beige tunic and mud brown pants that fell to his ankles. He left the room, walking into the living quarters of the house. It was still dark outside, but the thin rays of moonlight glowed through the open windows as Shovah ate his breakfast. When he finished, he stood up and walked outside, past the round buildings until reached one of the largest buildings of them all; the training facility. He walked inside, where there were at least a dozen doors down a long hallway, he strode past all of them until he reached the second to last one - a white door with a large metal plaque bearing the words "training rooms." This he opened, and entered an enormous room with dozens of large arenas - some grassy, some sandy, and some snowy. They were seperated by enourmous walls, and each wall had the same white door with the metal plaque, saying "grasslands #6" or "desert #4."
Shovah turned to his right, where there were enormous racks carrying hundreds of weapons and armor - from pulse rifles and carbines to rail-rifles and even battlesuits, though there were only 4 XV8's in the entire village, and 3 XV88's. Both the armor and the weapons were different colors - some black, some an orangy yellow, and some white. Shovah grabbed a pulse rifle and slipped into the fire warrior armor swiftly, he had done this so many times before. He wore white armor - for he was part of the Kais, who specialized in snow combat. Not that they would ever need it on Dal'yth, however.
The Kais were named so because they excelled in accuracy and speed, being able to be deployed quickly, fire a few shots, and move to another location to keep the enemy in disarray, however the only member of the Kais that had actually been in war was Shas'ui Vior'la, the strict and moody leader of the team, but they had excelled in all training excersizes.

More soon, gotta do some homework though :-\ !

Once Shovah was fully outfitted in the white armor, he grabbed a pulse rifle and continued down the room until he reached a door: "Snow, room 3," the plaque wore. He opened it and entered the large, realistic arena with artificial trees and snow. 3 other members of the 9 in the Kais were already there - practice was scheduled in 5 minutes. Shovah walked up to them - Kauyon, Suam, and Vior'la. Kauyon was rather tall and slim, optimistic, and had a never-ending sense of humor. Suam's family had been killed during the Damocles Gulf Crusade, yet he survived, with a large scar across his cheek, rising through the eye. He hated Tyranids more than anything in the world, yet he was calm and self-contained, occasionally getting angry at Kauyon's pranks. Vior'la was the leader of the group, but a dangerous leader, for hot-headed he certainly was. Finally, when the rest of the team entered the arena, they began training - several arduous activities from running laps to dodging projectiles leaving the Kais gasping for air. The time came and passed, but suddenly, during target practice, an Etheral entered the arena, glancing around to make sure he was in the right room.
He wore beige cloth, with intricate designs leaping from one stitch to another. Twin blades hung on his back, and a small pistol clinged to his hip. Every member of the Kais simaltaniously bowed down, laying their weapons in front of them and honoring the Etheral's presence. At the Etherals sign, they stood once again, but left their weapons on the ground.
"The Kais, at your service." Vior'la said proudly.
"Greetings, Vior'la, but I am afraid we have no time for common talk. A new planet has been recently sighted North of Dal'yth - and according to our sensors it is uninhabited. I have come to you because there is no other squadron here able to take the environment there, cold and snowy. We would like you to go there and investigate. You may contact me at any time with your answer, but you must hurry - a planet like this is not commonly come across." The Etheral said, and before the Kais could do or say anything he left without another word.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shovah sat in his small room on the dropship that had recently left Dal'yth. The ship shook occasionally, and a quesy feeling gathered in his stomach. Shovah had only gone in space a few times, and none of them were pleasent experiences. One of the crew entered, silently handing him a plate with food and a glass with an unrecognisable substance and left. Though his stomach lurched with hunger, he set the food aside.
"Unrecognisable" is never good for food... He thought, lying down to bed and drifting off into uneasy dreams.

Thanks, your comments are really making me feel more confident
Here's some more:

Shovah's eyes fluttered open. The cabin shook violently, and half of the items had toppled over or broken. He got up slowly, carefully walking through the shards of glass and up to the electronic door, which slid open as he approached it. From there he entered the main deck, where he found Vior'la pacing nervously. 3 long couches were scattered across the room, and the table in the center lay upturned, yet no one seemed to want to right it - it would just topple over again. A large radar screen stretched across the left wall, with several blinking lights that Shovah had no idea what meant. He walked towards Vior'la, but stumbled on a particularily violent jolt and tumbled to the floor. Embarrased from his lack of dignity, Shovah quickly pulled himself back up and approached Vior'la, who had hardly moved at all.
"Graceful," murmered Vior'la sarcastically, which surprised Shovah. Vior'la was a stony, straight-forward person.
"What's with the...turbulence?" Shovah asked, searching for the right word; turbulence was an understatement.
"We are nearing the planet, but nothing seems to be normal about it. As you know, our sensors didn't pick up any life signals...but the problem is - they're not picking up anything else. No life, no pressure, no atmosphere...nothing. It's as if it didn't exist."
The pilot's voice emnated through the speakers: "Ship entering planet's atmosphere in approximately 5 minutes."
"How could we see the planet on the radar, if, like you said, it has no readings whatsoever?" Shovah asked curiously, yet somewhat frightened.
"I don't know. This is certainly very peculiar." Was Vior'la's response, and then a jolt sent even him rolling across the room.
The electronic door in the rear opened, and Suam entered the room, dressed in full armor.
"For goodness sake, Suam, put the damn gun down before you shoot someone!" Shovah yelled, just recovering from the last jolt.
"And whats the armor for, anyway?" Shovah added, "You heard the ethereal. No life on the planet."
"We're landing in 5........4 minutes," He said, adding the last part after hearing the pilot's latest announcement. "Who knows what can be down there that we can't see?"
"It's better to be safe than sorry," Vior'la agreed. "I'll rally the rest of the squad and tell them to get their armor, unless they've already done so."
Shovah left the room hastily, unwilling to be shot on a bad bump.

Shovah entered the armory, where there were about twenty suits of armor and another twenty weapons hanging on a large rack in the center of the room. Small, hard benches surrounded them, and the whole room seemed puny in comparison to the training grounds on the Dal'yth village.
If I ever see Dal'yth again....Vior'la's right, who knows what can happen?
Three other members of the Kais were putting on the armor as well, and Kauyon had just entered. Shovah waved to Kauyon - he knew the whole team, but Kauyon and Suam he knew from outside the team, they had all met at a training academy. A sudden jolt brought Shovah back to attention, and he hastily dressed himself and headed towards the landing hatch, to be ready for landing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ship has entered atmosph-" The pilot said, but suddenly the ship's lights turned off. Then Shovah realized that so had the engine, and all power systems. They had completely shut down.

The dropship rocketed towards the planet's surface, and the Kais were being tossed around the ship like flies. No control or button would work, there was no way to break their fall...
Shovah held on tightly to the rack as the ship lurched this way and that as it plummeted. He vaguely heard a pulse rifle go off and a strangled scream, but his mind was elsewhere...

They were bound to die.
The ship hit the surface of the frosty plant with a loud crash, and then it was silent. The dropship was flaming, there was fire everywhere, and Shovah's mind was in a blur as he lay in the wreckage, unable to move. The dropship had split into many large pieces, scattered on the frosty plain like a child's forgotton toy, and it was eerily silent. Nothing stirred in the wasteland of desolation.

More

Shovah woke slowly, and as his eyes drifted open, he began to stand, but his knees all but screamed and he fell back to the hard, icy ground. He slowly drifted to sleep again as weariness overwhelmed him, and the thought echoed hollowly in his mind:
I was lucky I survived...
After a little les than a dec, he woke again. This time he was able to stand, and although the pain was far from gone, he gritted his teeth and walked around stiffly, trying to regain feeling in his freezing, aching body. His left arm hung limply by his side, and he felt at least 3 broken ribs. Matted blood covered the top of his head, but he was alive...
Something stirred to his right, underneath a pile of still smoking rubble, and Shovah rushed to it as fast as his ribs would let him - pain stabbed him like a hot knife in the cold, wintery plain whenever he breathed. Slowly, one by one, he lifted the broken support beams and masses of ruins. He saw a hand sticking out limply of the debris, pale, almost lifeless, but not quite, he grabbed it eagerly and pulled. His muscles strained under the extra weight, but he did not care, he pulled anyway. Finally the debris gave way, and a body emergy. Shovah looked into the pale face; Vior'la was still out cold and his corpse hung still, but he was breathing...a gash down his arms and several large burns were his injuries were the flaming debris had hit him. He would have been crushed to oblivion if it weren't for the thick armor he wore.
And I thought it was a miracle I survived! He's half dead!
After more searching, he found six other survivors. All of the crew had died, for they had no armor to save the debris from crushing them. Etan, the seventh member, Shovah gagged when he saw. Etan was missing an arm, and from his waist down his skin was torn to shreds where the engine had exploded and landed on him. Suam was the only other survivor awake, save for Shovah.
"Poor Etan..." Suam mourned. Etan was the newest member, but was skilled and had an uncanny sense of knowing the enemy.
Shovah made a small fire out of some large splinters of wood, a difficult task in the snow, but he succeeded, nonetheless. Suam and Shovah huddled together, waiting - hoping - for some others to wake.
