Default The Knights of the Resurrection: part one, the trial

The Knights of the Resurrection Part 1:
The Trial of Brother-Captain Zenos

“Brother-Captain Zenos, please rise for the Inquisition,” declared the Imperial servitor, as the trial began. “Please state your name, title, and unit for the Inquisition.”
Rising from his seat near the front of the courtroom, Brother-Captain Zenos spoke strongly, “Talon Zenos, Brother-Captain of the Daemon hunters, Commander of the Knights of the Resurrection.” He stood resolute in the scouring glares of the ten men seated at his right. His large build and muscle showed throughout the dress uniform, making an imposing stature. His long brown hair and battle-worn face depicted a man knowledgeable of battle. His hard eyes, almost gray, were unusual. Normally a swirling mist of mystery, they never seemed to lack a certain bit of compassion. Now more than ever, his eyes showed a sadness of sorts, maybe even a pity.
But this was lost on the Inquisitors. Wreathed in smoke, they presented the iron law of the Emperor, protecting his realm from witches and heretics. Only malice was held in their eyes, and their faces showed a passionate hatred for the man standing before them.
“Brother-Captain Zenos, you are accused by the court for heresy, corruption of the Grey Knights of your chapter, along with some units from the Imperial Guard. Please face the Inquisition and present your argument.”
“What are you?” The Brother-Captain asked casually, the Inquisition caught off guard. “You call yourselves Sons of the Emperor, yet you promoted hate, greed, murder, and intolerance. You call yourself upholders of the Emperor’s law, yet you act with only prejudice and stereotype against the victims of your terrible reign.”
“Your sins are mortal, for corrupting the mind of any good man or woman is not only morally wrong, but goes against the will of the Emperor and the Lord Christ,” upon these last words, the breath of the Inquisition held and Zenos smiled grimly.
“Did I say something that startled you? The context of religion in anything other than the machine cults is deemed heretical and non-productive in your eyes. Why, had you not already assumed this from the name of my chapter? Surely you have all read the old texts. They speak of sacrifice, loyalty, faith, and of doing good for your fellow man. Are these not the same concepts that the Emperor embraced when he brought mankind together throughout the universe? You are so corrupt that even your very souls are belonging to the devil. The Demon Lord possesses you now, with every thing you do or every word you say. For what is it that reigns in the Imperium if it is not Chaos.”
“What are you,” the Brother-Captain repeated, very heated now. “You pitiful, pathetic vessels of hatred are not the Emperor’s righteous crusaders.”
“You are only heretics.”
And with that the Brother-Captain sat down; spent, but apparently satisfied. The members of the Inquisition nodded and the Imperial Servitor began in the same, unaffected monotone, “you are hereby condemned for your crimes. May you find the will of the Emperor in the – ”
The large wooden court doors burst open, with the sounds of lasrifle fire behind them. Three men in the terrifying terminator suits of the Grey Knights ran through, a number of Imperial Guard troops on the ground behind them. One quickly removed his helmet, showing an older, shaven head, and a face filled with experience.
“We must leave now Talon,” he said hurriedly, as the other two Knights began firing their wrist mounted storm bolters into the corridor.
Turning to the Inquisition, the Brother-Captain spoke in harsh tones, “Here me now, heretics. I will not be destroyed by this unlawful court, and neither will my people. It may not be in my lifetime or yours, but there will be justice. You will fall.”
And with that he turned, taking the cracking Nemesis Sword from the outreached hand of his most trusted follower and friend. “Thank you Balin, now let us leave this God forsaken place.”

The trial was two years ago. The Knights of the Resurrection are still alive, and still fighting for the cause of good; whether it is against Chaos, the Inquisition, the Orks, or the Imperium itself. They gather more men under there banner every day, from affected Grey Knight to lowly trooper, and are waiting for the time when they can rise against the Imperium, and bring the greatness of the Lord and the will of the Emperor back to the universe.
