Default Ork Dirigible [Player Made Datasheet]

Ork Dirigible

CostFrontSideRearBs

Unit4501111112

Type: Superheavy Flyer

Structure point: 2

Wargear:
The Dirigible is armed with 2 turret mounted twin-linked big shootas, 2 bomm pylons.

Bomm PylonStrAPSpecial

Bombs64Apocalyptic Barrage (6) One shot

Big Burna BommStrAPSpecial

Hellstorm74Inferno, One shot, Volatile

Options
The Dirigible may purchase up to 4 more turret mounted twin-linked big shootas for +10 points a piece and may add AA mounts to any for +5 points per mount. The Dirigible has 2 bomm pylons with 6 bomms a piece. One or both pylons may be dropped in a single run but they are single use only. Once they're gone they're gone. Additionally the Dirigible may be either choose to transport 20 models or 2 Big Burna Bomms.

Special Rules:
Slow and Steady: Instead of the normal 36" required the blimp may move 18" for its minimum movement & 42" for its max move.

Use da boostas!: Only the craziest or speediest Orks use the tacked on boosters to speed along. This may be simple solid fuel rockets or a strapped on engine from a Deathstrike missile. Either way the Dirigible may attempt to move faster than normal using unstable but really big rocket boosters. Roll 3d6 and add the total to the max move of the Dirigible. After movement is finished the Dirigible suffers glancing hits equal to the number of 1s rolled. If boostas are used the Drop Anchor rule may not be used as the momentum simply is too great.

Wind Currents: At the end of the unit's movement roll a scatter dice & 1D6. On a hit the dirigible floats that many inches in that direction as the grots fight the strong wind currents. On a miss the dirigible floats twice as many inches. Note this does effect placement of the bombing run.

Drop Anchor: Instead of normal flyer movement, the crew may drop weights to allow more control. Treat the blimp as a fast skimmer with a max move of 18". While anchored Wind Currents don't apply.

Volatile: The chemicals in a big burna bomm can be very explosive. If the distance rolled is 3 ones, the bomm explodes too close to the blimp. Take one glancing hit.

Big BOOM!: Watching things explode is pretty, especially if you're an Ork. While the Dirigible is close enough to the ground to drop on the battlefield its fireworks sometimes is enough to spur on a frenzy of crazy greenskins. If the Dirigible explodes while flying any model on the ground within 2D6" is hit with a strength 4 AP 6 hit (vehicles are hit on side armor). Additionally any Ork unit within 24" inches must take an unmodified Leadership test. If failed they stare at the pretty sight and count as entangled. Additionally roll a D6. On a 4+ the Ork player gains an extra Waaagh! the following turn. This does not stack upon the normal Waaagh! and must be used or it is forfeit.

Notes: This is a very rough draft. I haven't ever messed with Ork stuff so I'm hoping y'all can help me refine this thing (if such a thing is possible where Orks are concerned.) Its something a friend & I came up with when he went into this big creative spree. At first we attached a balloon to a Looted Leman Russ & it just went crazy after that.

Note - MASSIVE EDIT: My friend & I were working out details & we did a big overhaul. He's the Ork player so he had some changes in mind. Made the bomms their max capacity as standard and made it so you can drop 6 bomms twice or 12 bomms once.

Wow taht is a nice blimp

Btw it's a tad undercosted for how uber it could be potentially.
Now these in squads of 3+

But the best part is it sounds very Orky, just needs a carzy weapon and your set! BTW should it be able to transport boyz?

I've changed it to a super heavy with a single structure point to make it able to fire the big shootas independently. Raised the cost to reflect the bomb load & status change. Added a big, dangerous weapon or transport capability.

I thought all vehicles had 1 structure point already, and that superheavies have 2 or more?

Super heavies have a different damage chart and can fire each weapon independently, i.e. fire at multiple targets.

I really like this, but I'd make it much slower. You have to remember how fast things go and the time frame of 40k (one turn equals 10 seconds), and blimps and airships aren't quick things (no matter what Final Fantasy would have you believe).

I'd probably keep it to 24" movement, if not 18". A speeding Falcon goes 24" and that should easily outstrip a dirigible. It's still a flyer so it still gets only glancing hits because of the height etc... I might give it another structure point and possibly thicker armour on the sides, perhaps. Make it a bit beefier to compensate for the slowness.

Slightly increased armor & added a structure point. Slightly increased cost but decreased speed to keep costs down.

It's good considering its a rough draft. I really like the volatile rule because it's so orky ;D.
