Default Invulnerable Super Heavy Flyers!

Had an Apoc game on Sunday where we were facing two Super Heavy Flyers!

One was a Marauder and the other a Thunderhawk.

The only AA we had was a Barracuda!

The Barracuda's ion cannon hit on a 4+ and even then could only cause a glancing hit due to the rules for the super heavy flyer.

This meant that you had to get a 6 on the damage dice to do any damage.

Even the Remora Drone Fighters aren't classed as AA!

All the other weapons hit on a 6, then have to glance/penetrate and then have to roll a 6 on the damage dice to do any damage.

We found it impossible to shoot them down.

Has anyone else had any experience of these things or have we got something wrong?

Roland

No, nothing is wrong. Read closely all the sections on flyers and superheavies. The chart for them is redone a bit, but it does take a fair bit of firepower to bring them down.

Cheers!

Not super-heavies.
They treat Engine Damage as Chain Reaction, but that's it.
Also, due to the -2 Damage modifier on Glancing hits for Superheavy Flyers, you have to roll a 6 (6-2=>4=>Engine Damage=>Chain Reaction), to do any Significant damage.
Strength D weapons help, as they only have a -1 Modifier (-2 +1 = -1).

You know....the Barracuda just isn't really that good an air unit I've come to conclude.

Try taking on a superheavy flyer with a Nigthwing Interceptor, it'll be easier (but still no walk in the park).

I'm not sure. The Barracuda can spit out an unholy amount of shots (11 per turn!) which mine has brought down quite a few aircraft and a whole lot of ground units!

Looking at the Barracuda, it's okay as a ground strafer, but it suckes as an AA platform, which is what it's supposed to do. The thunderbolt is a heck of a lot better and cheaper :sadnshocked:.

It was overpriced to begin with, but the apoc rules for it are an utter bloody joke.

I'm sticking with overpriced forgeworld rules methinks.

Almost literally.

What's the Tau Super Heavy flier? The Orca right? Is it worth anything?
