Default Life in Portland State University (and Oregon in general)

Heya all,

I am trying to get myself into the United States to further my education, and the university that I have chosen to further my studies is Portland State University. I am currently trying to do the transfers as of this moment to get myself there. It's a bitch to do the bureaucratic processes, but I figured that it is worth it for my future.

But here's something I would ask that the University would not answer me much; How is life in Portland State University, and generally life in Portland and the whole of Oregon?

PS: If someone can help me in some of the things in transferring to Portland State University, it would also be an added bonus.

Don't go to oregon, on the way there you will either get shot, mauled by a bear, or die of dysentary.

People outside of the U.S., like the OP, won`t get that reference - we don`t get the chance to play that game (and I only know of it because it came up in conversation with my American girlfriend the other night).

Its funny, because it clicked right away for me. :P Played that game on our first computer, as well as at school in computer class. It was awesome!

I love this city and think the negative vibes come from jealousy. Portland is awesome and so is the university. less then 2 hours from snow skiing and the ocean as well as any outdoor sport you oculd hope for. The gaming community is growing out here and so is the job market. We also have a much smaller polution problem than most american cities. It really depends on what you want to do when you are not studying and then I could help you more.

I see. To be honest, I would like to ask if it is wiser to live off-campus or in-campus, which will allow me to know what is it to expect over there.

Portland's great, I've visited a bit since I'm relatively nearby and we have family friends there. I would suggest living on campus the first year at least, since it will be much easier to find people to connect with than if you are living off campus, unless you already have connections there.

As for Portland in general it's pretty liberal as well as environmentally friendly. It's a nice place, and people are pretty friendly there. I don't know much about the culture of the University specifically since I haven't heard from anybody that goes there.

Yeah, I like Portland too. It's an awesome city. I've been there multiple (5 or 6+) time recently (past 2-3 years) with the sailing team.

Probably would've gone there if I hadn't gotten into the University of Washington (in Seattle).

I dunno about on campus vs. off campus living though so I can't help there.

... dunno much about the rest of the state.

Moving on campus as a first year in the area is probably easier and then as you get comfortable you can find a good deal on housing and have a better idea of what area appeals more. IMHO that is the better deal and easier too.
