Default Cupcake, not what you think

Cupcake is the name for a open-source, do-it-yourself, 3d printer/rapid-prototype machine. In other words, build your own model making machine. Just add a computer with a computer designed item.

http://www.makerbot.com/

It's to the point where some of the people are desiging parts for upgraded models of these things on the current model prototyper.

I am currently reading through MAKE Magazine's instructions for a homemade 3D scanner in this latest issue. No suprise the idea of making my own model designs and a (rather slow) production line are sounding appealing to the DIYer in me.

That's pretty cool looking. You could make little rubber ducks with it.

I wouldn't mind having one of those.

Well, plastic ducks, though I suppose it would depend on what you could get to go through the extruder mechanism.

So, how does it work?

Would it be possible to replicate an entire 40k part (ya know, those rare pieces that cost a bomb, or as a quick way to resculpt a part) or is it only as complicated as that egg thing they keep showing?

YOu should look at thier records section, one of which shows a couple of gears someone managed to make and work together...next to a penny.

No, pretty much anything you have a 3D model program for can be made on this thing. Everythign else is finetuning it to do what you want. The smaller the part the higher the resolition your going to want this thing to do but apparently there are ways to do that.
