The Pre, I hate Apple, but personally I would either go with the HTC Touch HD or the forthcoming Sony Ericsson products - the X2 or the X5.

Depends on who you are, what you prefer, and how much money you have. Simple.

I am getting the iPhone 3GS because I have an iPhone now and I find it good to use. Does what I need it to do, I use apple computers a fair bit for home/work, and I find them to be hassle free. Depends on what you prefer really.

I have an iPhone 3G. It's never steered me wrong and I see nothing wrong with it. Mind you, I am Canadian so things aren't as cut and dry as the service providers in the states so that is a little different.

I'm excited by things like Android and the Pre, but I say give them a few years to get out of the shell and set up their own ideas. Until then, they're really just trying to be the iPhone.
