Default F L C L (Fooly Cooly)

Does anybody watch this anime? If you do, do you understand the plot? (or lack of it)

I've watched the series several times and still I can't understand it.

What on earth is it about?

Little boys have to grow up.

The awkward years of adolescence and the amount of sexual references didnt tip it off? it was such a short series that you couldnt overthink the plot.

I believe the Manga has a better way of going about its story, however, the anime will always have its funny quirks.

I think it's more accurate to say "Everyone has to grow up, but too much at one time isn't healthy". Think about it, it was actually a pretty deep series for the short time it has to work with.

Remember that the kid isn't a teen, he's rebelling against growing up in the sense that he wants to skip the teenage years. His brother, the girlfriend, sexual tension, politics, and sense of time never passing in his town all contribute to an aggressive wanderlust. He wants to break free and just 'grow up' and see's the (immature) people around him as an annoyance. *shrugs* Like nearly any media, the symbolism can be nearly endless when left so open to interpretation.

It does have alot of little messages in there, so dont worry Buster Sword. Not many people get it at first, or even the first few times, but think what being a teenager, or growing up is like.

I've got to agree, one of my favourite shows of all time.

But as stated earlier, the main theme to it is growing up.
Though its possible to argue that Idea's of individuality are portrayed throughout it as well, represented by the hats he wears, and him just generally being different, oh, and the giant Iron "flattening out the wrinkles" so were all the same, or something to that effect.

I actually plan on buying a Rickenbacker Bass Guitar (well not just because of this show, there a really good bass anyway, and they do sound great). But I don't plan on hitting anyone with it.

EDIT: What has been said so far are themes, but the actual "plot line" is about a galaxy spanning company wishing to take over through mind control, a rogue agent looking for the love of her life and an agency trying to stop both of these things happening. Subplots includes who his actually "in love" with and the tension between "eyebrows" and bass wielding alien (can't remember her name).

No, she's in love with the pirate king.

She just happens to be indifferent to the destruction of the earth, as long as she gets what she wants (thats one way to look at it), but I still generally see her as a good guy.
She still cares about chief/Takoon, I think...
