Exactly, I hate it when we just keep introducing animals just to combat other ones in a revolving game of catch up.

Same here, but I guess they only want it so it doesn't kill them off, but just to keep the numbers under control.

I just hope the flies only target fire ants. Although I at this stage, it's far too early to tell the repercussions further up the food chain with increased number of available food running around.

Tonight's Headline; it might have once been fiction, but a US zombie apocalypse has been declared. The 'Phorid' fly species used to combat fire ant populations in the southern US has reached saturation to the point where humans bitten and impregnated by fly larvae to a sufficient degree are undergoing 'zombiefication' where the parasitic larvae eat through a persons tissues into the frontal lobe of the human brain while releasing chemicals that make the infected human seek out cool dark damp locations, such as basements.

Infected humans rapidly become vast breeding grounds for the larvae who eventually eat out the infected persons brain unless the body is suitably disposed of, with each victim succumbing the number of flies increases by about 200 all ready to infect new humans.
