Default KAME... HAME... HUH?

Ok, so I'm still trying to make my mind up about Dragonball Evolution. On the one hand it had terrible acting, a barely explained plot line, utterly generic 2 dimensional characters, some major deviations from the original cartoon and some horrible continuity errors.

On the other hand it had some good special effects, some very well choreographed fight scenes and was actually damn good fun to watch.

I think mainly this film only works if you go and see it with friends and have horrendously low expectations. It's one of those films that you can just lie back, turn your brain off and take the utter piss out of it.

So yes, it was a terrible film, but I still had a damn fun evening seeing it.

What did everyone else think?

P.S. I think I deserve a medal for coming up with what is clearly the best thread title ever!

EDIT: Forgot to add this:

We filmed this at school today in anticipation for seeing the movie. I think we captured the scene quite well

Credits (In order of appearance):
Harry - Goku
Steg - The floating chair
Tom - Nappa
Tim - Vegeta

I stopped watching after 4 minutes.

It was just irredeemably terrible and I had a permanent wince fixed onto my face.

Seriously the editor, director, assistant director, and the entire editorial staff (assuming they had one, you wouldn't think it) for that matter must have been lobotomized.

In fact has Roger Ebert reviewed this movie yet? That guy's hilarious whenever he hates things.

I thought you'd say something like that Crazed :P

I agree that everything about the movie is pretty terrible, but I don't think that should necesarrily stop you enjoying it, as long as your not actually enjoying the film but rather the experience of watching it. When I saw it for example, me and my mates spent the whole time taking the piss (largely empty cinema so we got away with it) and had a great laugh about it.

I'm not completely a snob, I mean yes I am, but I do like simple action fests made for the purposes of enjoyment rather than...you know...being good. That's fine with me, I admire that, because god knows if every film were a new visual/emotional experience or was studded totally with thespians and laborous award winning dialogue or stunning cinematography and fresh and innovative editting, then viewing cinema would become really tiring.

There's a great deal of merit in just simple mindless action flicks you can enjoy and I'd be the first to admit that. Particular favorites of mine includes Crank, Crank 2, Dawn of the Dead, Tom Yum Goong, Ong Bak, Hard Boiled, Transporter and many others that I'm sure are universally enjoyed by TO.

But one thing I do need from brainless action films is an in your face irreverence and a level of self awareness. It just makes it actually enjoyable and you don't need to have that nagging self doubt in the back of your mind that goes "wait did Michael Bay expect me to be impressed by that shot?". What I can't take seriously are films like this and Transformers and the likes.

How dare you put Crank in the same list as the immortal Ong Bak! :P
Crank was so dire....and not even fun to watch. I like Jason Statham, but he couldn't save it.

Surely the best Jason Stathan film is Death Race. It's got cars, guns, hot women, cars with guns on top driven by hot women, power tools and Jason Statham. Heck it's got more testosterone than a Manowar concert :P

If you're a man and you didn't like that film you're gay, end of
