Default 2009 New fishing gear

As you can see here, now is the time to get ready for the 2009 fishing season.

Me I seriously need to get a new reel and some line, mine is too old and dry: I'm losing 5" trouts for Cod sakes!

Not really, being in Canada. But we do get some of their stuff and it is indeed some serious gear.

This is where I usually go.

Bah, Cabelas is where its at.

I say that because it was founded in Sydney, Nebraska, and there's 3 within driving(tank wise) distance of where I am right now as well.

Bargain cave is the best part of the entire store.

Nice, indeed, the closes one for me would be in Boston.

If you look at the link I added to my previous post, you can see where I get my gear from. Another serious outdoor store.

Not too impressed by their website, seems a bit unprofessional. No offense meant.

Hm. Getting the right tools for the job might be a bit tricky.
But my recommendations is to not get hypnotized by all the "sportsmans-bling" you get offered. (Same advice when it comes to buying guns )
A rod, reel and line of decent quality isn't that expensive, unless one want to go for the "brand" titles. (which too often is of lesser quality than cheaper alternatives).

I still use the same rod I got for my 16th birthday. Getting weathered, but still reels in the big ones.
My home is barely 100 yards from the sea and 150 from the forests/mountains so there are plenty of fishing-spots in both salt and fresh water. But I've always preferred the salty sea.

Sea-fishing -> any shiny lure is great. Caught good fish on a piece of lead with aluminium-foil wrapped around it one time I ran out of lures. (Oh, what a weekend that was)

Fresh-water fishing -> worms (especially good is the clay-worms you may find by the sea-shore. Lives in areas with gray clay).

Good luck to you

I'd be using the same rod I got 6 years ago...

Except my dad was fishing with it 2 years ago, and he got a bite on mine whilst he was checking another one...

Well, lets just say that my rod and reel is sitting at the bottom of the Spillway at Gavin's Point Dam...

I still use my rod I got about 15-20 yeras ago. It works really well, and my reel is the original one...we paid a small fortune to have one which was interchangeble since I'm a lefty.

I agree avoid the flashy stuff, go for the tried and true.
