Default Victorian Bushfires

I'm not sure if this had made an impact on overseas news yet.
As Korill mentioned in the venting thread yesterday Victoria in Australia is being decimated by some very severe Bushfires (Wildfires in US). So far they have confirmed 35 people killed and they say the number will rise. The ferocity of the fire is unbelievable, the pictures shown on the news in Australia are apocalyptical. Not long ago I witnessed on 7 news a group of 4 cars were burnt out, not sure on the welfare of the occupants, around a tree that had fallen across the road. One car it appears had hit the tree.

It is a devastating fire and may surpass the infamous Ash Wednesday fires (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Wednesday_fires) that killed 47 in Victoria and 28 in South Australia (my home state). A combination of high temperatures a drought stricken land have cause the devastation that it shown to us.

I urge all TO members who read this to think of the people affected by this horrible disaster and give their condolences to those who were not lucky enough to escape the fury of the fires.

Here is a news sites coverage: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574...5-1243,00.html
There are pictures on here to illustrate the damage.

I'm just going to leave this and this

Also, we got lucky that the fires started on the last day of our two week heatwave. Its now 20C and raining, and should stay that way for a few days.

Death toll's now at 76 (probably more by the time I post this) and entire towns have been wiped off the map. I'm just thankful there's nothing around where I live yet. *touch wood*
This is the worst we've had it in ages. :-\

It's a terrible tragedy and I'd hate to be the first fiery to stumble upon a burnt out car with a family inside, as they really don't deserve that after all the hard work they've done. The saving grace for me at least is that if their were any arsonists involved, then they've probably burnt themselves to death.

This is now officially the worst bushfire to ever hit Australia. All we can do is pray that we wake up to better news...

This is now worse than Ash Wednesday and Black Friday combined.

Sorry, I read it wrong. I mixed up casualties with actual numbers of dead. But it's still as of now the worst Australian bushfire in terms of deaths.

I don't believe in God and I'm sorry that I shan't pray for the victims of this fire. But I believe it is our obligation to make our own welfare with or without God's presence in our hearts. As Australians it's a fair cause to help out those of us so dearly in need now. Tommorow I will donate to the Australian Red Cross the first chance I get and I highly urge all Aussies concerned by the fire to help out in whatever ways they can.

My condolences go out to the families who are affected by the fire.

But on the other side of the country isn't there severe flooding? (aparently peeps were told to look out for wild crocs!)

Now looking at it from an ironic scale.. thats funny.
