Default Time Travel

This isn't a really serious thing, hence not in SD&D, and I don't expect Genmotty to mosey over here and throw maths at us explaining either A) how it would really work or B) how it can't possibly work.

I'd just like to point out that all machines that would enable you to travel in time would also have to enable you to travel in space, i.e. be a teleporter, too.

For example.

Say I have a time machine. Let's call it a police call box =P I step inside my time machine and say "right, let's move this machine and everything in it back in time... call it six months."

I do so.

I open the door and step outside... into space.

Six months ago, that exact place would be the same but the Earth would be on the other side of the sun.

Therefore, for time travel to work (I know the TARDIS does work this way, I just used its image as an example) it has to move in space as well as time, or at best you'll end up a couple of hundred miles west.

Crikey! This crazy clown causes commotion like the coming of Christ. Contained in a circle corrupted by crackheads and carnal cravings, he creates no concession to callous cheaters concentrating on nought but cock. Certainly, still a curious and cordial cavalier in the countenance of crazed cads, curs and creeps who condemn courtesy as something corny. No cloud could collapse his crushing crescendo of comical crowing and crimson coiffure. This conjecture on culture comes circumlocutive, consequently...

You may call me Circus.

I always thought of them as being like the tardis. Input time coordinates, and location coodinates.

Although the thought of Marty McFly going to back to 1985 and ending up floating dead in space is quite amusing.

Most in fiction are, but not all. Not by a long way.

*Moseys over to the Enclave*

Yes it's not all that suprising, it's why spacetime is called as such. 3D + 1, three dimensions of space and one of time.

Time machines only become teleporters if they are moving relative to whatever is around them. Now interestingly if you had the technology to physically time travel then your physical place in space wouldn't probally be the hard bit to deal with.

The question really has to be would time travel occur like a portal or like a bubble?

A portal could have it's ends fixed in points of space (like the film lost in space) which would prevent that problem.
