Ok, I need some help here. How the hell can I motivate myself more, theres so much I want to do, but I can never summon the energy (this is above and beyond simple laziness, I know that much) to do anything.
I want to get fit, I would love to learn a martial art, there really is so much I want to do, but I get home, and I can't make myself get up and do it. So, any motivational tips? I'm borderline worried, as I know I can be lazy, but this is stuff I do really really want to do, and I get nothing.

I hear you on this. Im almost the exact same way. I am extremely lazy when it comes to schooling and other things that aren't neccasary. One teacher got made at me for using the Elevator instead of the stairs. :
![]() Anyways, I got this new job. Now I am one of the most motivated people at my store. I think it has to do with my need of money though. Your situation could be different. For general motivation, I cant help you in the least bit. I guess you could slowly take steps to becoming more motivated. For example, write up a schedule of what your going to do for the day, then complete as much as possible and reward yourself for it. Just dont be like me and cheat yourself and just reward yourself anyways :P Motivating people isn't really the easiest thing to do. I still haven't been motivated by anyone except by some kind of bribe or other things. BE |

Really the easiest way to get fit is to start small and work up.
Not to be harsh, but if you join a marshial art the way you are (I'm guessing pretty out of shape the way you're talking) it'll be kind of embarrasing. So my advice is to start by just doing as many pushups in the morning as you can. Don't set a goal, just do as many good ones as you can. If you can't do full ones, do them from the knees. If you can't do those, do from the waist. Believe me, this works wonders. The more you do it, the more it gets easier to remember. Just roll out of bed and do 'em until your arms burn. Not only does it wake you up in the morning in a nice way, but exercise puts endorphins into your body so you feel good about yourself. Win-win situation. This worked for me, really well. I used to be a skinny weakling, and while I wouldn't exactly fit in on a Bowflex commercial now I am much stronger and feel a lot better about myself. Try it out- you'll be surprised out how simple and effective this is. ________ Weird, I've just responded to you 3 times in about a minute... coincidence? I, think, not!!!

set goals that you want to make.. and work towards them.. and set new goals.. and keep that going...
and if you find a good martial arts school.. after your first class, you'd want to go everyday just for fun. |

Hahaha, Sanders, I do the same thing.
I find my arms start to tingle around 40 push ups. But I can push steady for a while after. When I'm done with push ups, I move on to crunches. Which is basically a sit up, just getting your shoulder off the ground. You should be able to do about 100 of those at one time.

Aftercresent is being a little bit...unrealistic.
I'd say somewhere around 15-20 push ups, and 30-50 sit-ups to begin with. I'm lazy as hell, too. My biggest problem is motivation to paint - but that's something else. I'm here to talk about you . So, what I did for fitness and getting in shape is at school (I'm a freshman (9th grade) at high school) I'm taking a weight training class. It's really helping a lot - already since the start of school (about a month) I'm feeling generally a lot better about myself. If your school doesn't have a weight class (are you going to college or not?) then really there's not much to do if you're extremely lazy. What I do is I just think about the consequences - "What'll happen if I decide to paint this mini? Hey, I think I'd enjoy it once I started. Plus it'll help my painting even more." and that sometimes is enough in itself to motivate me to do something.

+++Well, Do you have dogs? If so...Take them for walks. Press ups become quite easy after about fifty, And thats all you need to get something to show because the testostorone in your body will react with it.
Don`t try crunches until you have got distinct abs and pecs. Crunches are bad for you if you don`t already have muscles. I also have a trampoline, 20 minutes on a trampoline is wort walking 5 miles or something like that. I know this option is a hard one to take but it might be worth considering. Another extreme is to get a job as a stable boy. It is really poor pay and really long hours but the heavy lifting will either give you back problems or great abs. ![]() Hope that has helped.+++

If you've got an iPod, walkman, tapedeck(if anyone remembers those) grammaphone, w/e, play a song and try and keep at whatever you're doin until the song ends. Gradually use longer and longer songs, until you're so fit, you can work-out for ONE ENTIRE ALBUM. Ahh wishful thinking.
