No, not your online name, your real name.

Confused? Okay, let me explain.

Most of the names we have in modern society mean something in what ever language the name is originally from. The whole Baby name books industry is dedicated to telling what these names mean. I was wondering if anyone else had out of curiosity tried to find out what thier entire name, first, middle and last, ment.

For starters here is mine. I have two middle names actually so the translation of my full name is;

First:"Look up to"
Second(part one): "Who is like God?"
Second(part two): "Defender of Man"
Last: old germanic word meaning the head of a tribe or village. No direct translation.

So what does your name say about you?

"A brand of dress shirts, formerly made for many years in Waterville, Maine."

Well, my first name means (quite literally) "warn army" - so, it could be transformed into something like "He who warns the army" aka Scout. Kinda cool, if looked from this angle.

And my last name is an old german word for grief, or pain... cool, ey?

My first name is derived from the Roman family name "Antonius" (as in, Mark Antony), apparently.

Middle name is
Quote:
From the Latin Iosephus, which was from the Greek (Iosephos), which was from the Hebrew name (Yosef) meaning 'he will add'.
(its Joseph)

My last name means "Green Mountain" in Italian. I don't know of any family in Italy, but there was a rather famous Italian composer who shares the name, as well as a Naturalist Sculptor, Giulio Monteverde who also shares the same name (although not Americanised like mine is). Relatives? I have no idea. We don't think there are any surviving relatives left in Italy, since most of my family moved here to the U.S. I don't know how common my last name is, or was, in Italy.

"gift of God" for my first name. My last name is somewhat uncommon, but may be derived from an older Norse given name meaning "knot". My middle name means "desire protection", or "will helmet". No good way to string those together, I'm afraid.

This is interesting. Where do you go to find the meaning of a name?

My name means "the eldest son" in old english, which holds true in my family for three generations. Interestingly enough, I am not sufisized by 'the third' because my father was my grandfather's second son, (though my uncle has my name).
