I'm all for people having a mock swordfight or something, just try to avoid yelling out "lightning bolt!" repeatedly while you're at it

I want to do it. I would kick but seeing as how I train in martial arts and swordfighting. ;D

In that case, so is sex. Therefore, pornstars and prostitutes are professional athletes.

I'd definately go for it... 'cept I'd get banned for getting carried away and pinnioning some poor soul to a tree with my bow :.

There's actually some fairly big LARP clubs nearby, perfect place since it's out in the country with lots of woods and rivers.

I tried it once. There was one at my moms company picnick. I noticed it so I tied a blanket around my neck, picked up a stick and started yelling "magic missle alot". It really is fun. It's just thats the only time I've ever seen it or palyed it.

I wouldn't mind as long as:

1) I get a Buster sword clone

2) I get to ignore physics like in every single anime :

3) I get anime hair ;D

Kind of silly... My rule on LARPing is that so long as everyone is laughing their buts off the whole time, it's ok. Otherwise it seems a little childish...

That said, the best way to blow off steam is with a plastic AK-47 and a forest. Just be sure nobody sees you!

I went to a few NERO events during high school. I had a few friends that were pretty involved with it. If you are just in it for the fighting, you might be better off looking for a local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism. LARPing can seem a little silly if you aren't prepared for it. The weapon combat itself is fine and pretty well-implemented, as is most of the role-playing (just like acting, really). But the seed-packet spell-casting takes quite a bit of imagination. I never bothered with that side of it.

There are few things that I have ever done that beat staying up for 26 hours straight sword-fighting and running around out in the woods, though. Everyone should give that a shot at least once.

I have seen the other kind of LARPing before (the Goth variety, without all the actual fighting) in the student union back where I did my undergrad. I can't say that variety ever interested me much.

I dunno... I think I'd rather be shot with a paint-ball than smashed in the head with the flat side of a broadsword.
