Default future as 40k or star wars

does anyone like me think that humanity has a chance of becoming 40k or star wars style?
reason i think so is because i was just watching the "sciences of star wars" on the discovery channel and they showed a few cool stuff.Such as the robotic arm that looked on its way to the star wars style, the F22 raptor "also called a F15 on steroids" (quote from the comentator),which was similar to the X-wing fighter.plus, our technology is developing everyday so i was just wondering if anyone thought the same way.

Well, I believe, that someday, maybe, but I think it is more likely we will be at a Babylon 5/Halo sort of level - functional, some great things, but nothing uber.

How do you compare the F22 Raptor to an X-wing? I can't for the life of me figure it out.

I've seen the program you mean, it is very good. Just shows how good sci-fi is for expanding human science.

(Problem is, we need an uber breakthrough now, to make space travel any good. We can improve our engines only so much, but without the discovery of a wormhole system/alternate dimension we can use, we are pretty much stuck in Sol system )

Easy- the X-wing is void-combat capable, hyperspace capable, has energy shielding, four laser cannons, and proton torpedoes...

Meanwhile the F22 is... oh... hmmm....

Nope, not comparable at all, sorry.

Exactly, different roles, abilities etc.

Say for a moment, the x-wing exists, having been designed by the US. It is still totally different, both in role, and ability, and specifications/abilities to an F22.

If we went into star wars then we' be going back, not into the future. "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away."

In that case, so is sex. Therefore, pornstars and prostitutes are professional athletes.

Neither in my opinion (Unless 40k spins out of the future in some odd way???).

Prediction of near human history;

2020: Global shortages of water and over population leads to major wars throughout most of Africa. India and China become the new super powers of the world. EU becomes more tight-nit and the first laws are passed restricting private energy consumption to quota limits.

2040: Oil/petrol becomes over expensive, cars and lorries can still run, but at great expense. The first eco-terrorists will start to mobilise. MEDC governments push nuclear power as a stop gap measure to prevent global warming. GM humans created, either by lawful means or by unlawful means. GM crops see extensive use in MEDCs Computers integrated into most forms of work, leisure and life. Micro processors replaced by atomic computers.

2060: The EU becomes almost a country in itself, reliant on subsidised food and water production to keep massive city/sub-urban populations happy. Elsewhere America begins or has already lost super power status, we see the first men on Mars and first Luna colony’s. First time machines created able to send subatomic particles into the future.

2080: The third world war, begins or is put in place, with African, Middel-eastern and countries in Asia-minor warring over scarce resources for their huge populations, the war is part caused by migration and the clash of culture. Corporations move into space, the beginning of the human 'Solar empire'. Organisations created to expand human assets in space.

2100: Many MEDCs live in a vacuum from the rest of the world. Reliant on socialist policies, which protect themselves. Space travel becomes cheap enough for most well off people (In MEDCs) to be able to travel into space. Gap between MEDCs and LEDCs too great. Human race separated into those well off, and those in squalor.

Global warming has caused the north of the world to start 'iceing over' whereas once tropical regions become deserts. Net change in sea levels about the same as today.

2150: First out of system explorers set fourth on an 'ark'. Most ex-MEDCs become space faring peoples, earth more or less left to the LEDC counties.

2200: Without competition these counties develop 'better' Most of the earths population lives as today.

2250: Can't really predict this far into the future ;D.

Mind you, in a couple of hundred years if we don't get our thinking caps on we will all be destroyed by various interesting natural disasters, ie global warming, global cooling, eroding coastlines, lack of rainforest etc, so if you believe all the disaster lobbyists we're all going to die anyway, so what the hell. Although only about 5% of our oxygen is generated by rainforests, most is in fact generated by algae. However humanity should survive, despite all the shtlk we've done to our planet, hopefully a little the wiser for it. But we're not talking a lovely happy tree-hugging, let's-all-get-along Trekkie existence here. Mankind will always squabble, and unless someone does some SERIOUS genetic screwing around with the human race there will always be war. Just with added lasers.
