Default The English language is wierd

Ok heres the thread to point out all the absurd things about the english (or any other) language (I just used english in the title cause I speak english, please dont call in the lawyers). GO! *points at random guy in a suit who raises an eyebrow then goes back to reading his newspaper and muttering about the stock market*

First up. How come the plural of Goose is Geese, but the plural of Moose isn't Meese?

Cause Meese sounds silly.
Yea, the English language is a wierd thing, half of the time it doesn't make sense at all.

For example, the fear of long words is...
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. Or Sesquipedalophobia, depending on what source you're looking at.

Someone out there has a sense of Irony. :

Woelcome to the wonderful world of the english language. this is what we get when we basicly speak an argot of every civilisations that over ran us' languages. not to mention we tend to pick up words we like and start mixing them in as well. it's also why syntax and spelling rules are all over the place.

English is weird.

I was thinking about starting a topic about this as my English professor got me thinking today. How do you peoples pronounce the word ghoti?

Please write down how you think its pronounced and don't look any further down until you write it down.
Note: This might not work if you have an accent.

OK the pronunciation of ghoti is fish. Yes, fish.
The gh is like the gh in the word cough
The o is like the o in women
The ti is like the ti in nation.

If you dont understand then think about it for a bit longer.

I prefer Latin to English

English is simply awesome... needlessly complex, random, and so bloody confusing most people who speak it can't get through a single day without misspelling something. My kind of language.

Exactly, as opposed to Spanish where all pronunciations are literal but the translations don't make any sense at all. I've spoken English for 16 years and I still make mistakes regularly. Especially with grammer as it is no longer taught in as much detail.
